Report Activity No.3

Mental Health Talk 2021

The Mental Health Talk was held on 5 June 2021. Perkasa UTM is organizing this talk via Facebook Live through its Facebook PERSAKA page.

Mental Health talk 2021 emphasizes thinking skills as an attribute of UTM graduates.

My role during the psychological talk is to attend as a participant to gain insight into how to enhance our mental health care, especially when we encounter dark times.

This is a Facebook activity I participated in on Thursday, June 5, 2021. As a reward for attending the event, I received an e-certificate and merit as a reward. I had a great time participating in the whole activity. If this type of talk continues, I am willing to participate actively. A major aspect of this talk on Mental Health is thinking skills, which are one of the attributes of UTM graduates. As far as I know, thinking skills refer to the ability of students to analyze and define problems critically in order to make good judgements. As such, the organizer provides students with some tips on how to better manage their mental health, especially when facing some dark side in their lives. A speaker also described the difference between mental health and mental illness, stating that mental health refers to someone's state of mental and emotional well-being, and mental illnesses are conditions that affect one's feelings and behavior.

The activity helped me develop my thinking skills, for example, I was able to think critically when a problem occurred, and I also learned to be open-minded to receive criticism from others. Moreover, I was able to manage my time well because if there are a lot of assignments that I need to submit at one time, I will become stressed. As a result of good mental health management, I've been able to drastically reduce my stress levels and anxiety. Since I'm a self-disciplined person, I always make sure all the work is done before the deadline, so after listening to this talk, I will be able to reduce my stress even though there is still a lot of work to do.  While staying calm, I'll try to manage my time well to complete all the tasks. Even so, I struggle to be affected by my surroundings, which I find challenging. When I join the talk, I will easily become distracted by the noise around me even in my own room. Hence, my solution to this problem is to find a place where there is no noise so that I can concentrate.
