INDUSTRIAL VISIT 1 - CICT

As one of the top-tier research universities in Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) prides itself to provide the best quality education and services to all of its students. Nowadays, internet and its infrastructures are considered as the utmost important components to complement students’ virtual and online learning process in order to keep up with the growth and changes that happened nearly every second in our world.

Centre for Information and Communication Technology (CICT) started its operation as a computer center in 1975 where it used only IBM 390 framework. After a while, the framework was upgraded to IBM 4341 to cater the needs of university and to run system VM/SP5. In 1988, the center was temporarily located in Faculty of Built Environment. After 2 years of surveying and testing, CICT once again upgraded the framework to IBM 3090-12J with various new added systems such as student financial system, student exam system and etcetera.

CICT is built not only to serve, facilitate and provide UTM students with all-rounder ICT infrastructures and services but they also have plethora of other responsibilities to develop information and communication technologies. During our industrial visit, we learn that CICT also offers and delivers ICT services to UTM staffs for example system to support administrative works and academic activities.

DESIGN THINKING - AQUA INTELLIGENT BOTTLE

To mark the end of this course, we were asked to do a project of design thinking to design and create solutions to ease our daily life problems.  In a group of 5, we managed to design a smart water bottle named Aqua Intelligent Bottle to deal with the body hydration problem. Here is our report on the project.

This paper describes an application embedded smart water bottle named Aqua Intelligent Bottle which provide solutions to common problems faced by public to keep themselves hydrated.  Background of users and problems faced by users are also discussed to give a better understanding on the real problems faced by different individuals. Analysis of user study is presented in this paper to justify the problems surrounding the needs of Aqua Intelligent Bottle. Results of analysis shows that the features in Aqua Intelligent Bottle address and accommodate most of the common problems faced by the users in their daily lives.
