Mini Report
The UTM Games 2019 program is an annual program of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia that involves all UTM students to participate in this program. The main purpose of this program is to discover the hidden talents of students. Those students who have high potential in sports will be selected to represent the college and then to a higher level, as they will be absorbed into the university team to represent the university to national level tournaments (MASUM, SUKIPT and others). I was assigned as competition organizer for 3x3 basketball competition.
The graduate attributes that I have gained through the event is that it enhanced my leadership skill. I was involved in recruiting the committee members and technical team. Then, competition scheduling and task distribution were planned with the co-operation of other committee members. Other than that, scholarship skill was developed as I learnt a lot of event planning skills which are helpful to my future endeavour. Communication skill was important as we were to arrange the player registration and competition timetable with the college managers. The competition lasted for 2 days from 8am to 6pm. The event was a success.
Self Reflection
It was a very meaningful experience for me to be involved in and organize such a grand event in UTM. I am grateful that I had been helpful in making this event a success. The graduate attributes that I had developed from this event were leadership and teamworking skills, communication skill, thinking skill and scholarship.
The advantages or self strength towards joining the activities is that I had participated such carnival such as MASUM and KAKOM, thus I had a brief concept of the overall procedure of the event. Other than that, I had spent times in attending workshops by USE so that I was updated with the event progress and to keep every task on schedule.
The challenges that I faced in the event was to arrange physical meetings with the committee members as we were from different faculties and had different timetables. Hence, we had conveyed the important messages on Whatsapp group.
From this experience, I hope to improve more on event planning skill by preparing back-up plans for the activities in case of emergency.
