This celebration event is organized by Kelas Bahasa Mandarin UTM to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The celebration is opened to everyone to promote the culture of Chinese New Year. In the participation in this event, lots of graduate attributes can be learnt. One of them is communication skills. As one of the committee member, I was dutied to serve and explain about this celebration to the participants. Communication skills are crucial as this event involved people from different races includes the Malays, Indians, Chinese and also some international students. Besides, teamwork skills are important during the decoration and preparation of the event. Each of the committee's members is arranged for different tasks. Not to forget that the committee members are assigned to different groups, that lead by a group leader. Hence, it involves leadership skills.
It was indeed a great experience having a chance to involved in this event. For people who are not familiar with Chinese culture, they learnt about the history of Chinese culture and some traditional games and dances. And for people who are familiar with the culture, they get a chance to promote their culture to other people.
As one of the committee member who involved in entertaining the participants, I felt proud when the participants admire and excited about Chinese culture. Before coming to this event, I was uncertain and lack of confidence in my communication skills, and also knowledge of the culture. From the event, I learned more about my own culture. .Besides, I also learnt how to communicate with people and how to explain and promote my culture to people from a different culture.
One of the challenges i met is having difficulty answering some of the questions asked by the participant. I solved it by asking my friends who have more knowledge about Chinese culture. From there, I learnt something new. On top of that, I also make new friends during the session. Hence, this event was indeed an opportunity for me to enhance myself in term of communication skills, knowledge, expand my circle of friend and more.
