Individual Reflection on Project of Production Planning and Control
Upon acknowledgement of the project from Prof. Dr. Wong, I was confused and blurred on doing the project and did not know what and how to start. Fortunately, our lecturer, Prof. Dr. Wong explained briefly what we should do on this project and asked us to find a group of four to five members so that we can carry out the project among groups.
Prof. Dr. Wong recommended that we carry out the project by doing an industrial visit to collect the datas from a certain company. Initially, we panicked a bit, because we did not have any experience on doing the site visit and this led to our first meeting via Google Meet to survey a list of certain companies nearby our house or nearby UTM. We decided to find a company which is nearby UTM as Kah Mun and I are staying in UTM and it is very convenient for us to do site visits together to collect the relevant data and information. Besides, there are also many machine job shops or factories nearby UTM. A list of seven companies were then concluded and we started to write an invitation email to those companies, hoping that the companies could give us some reply. However, none of the companies in the listing gave a response and we are worried about it as it was coming to the due date of submission of Brief Proposal that we need to select a company to do the survey. Finally, we selected Rui Sin Plastics Sdn Bhd as our first choice and started to write a brief proposal. Later on, we received an email from Rui Sin Plastics Sdn Bhd regarding the rejection of the industrial visit. Then, we decided to have a walk-in interview one by one to the machine job shops and factories nearby UTM which is located in Taman Universiti. Unfortunately, Sin Chee and Fatin were unable to join us as they are not in UTM. However, we did the discussion and shared the datas and information collected as well as the experience during industrial visits with them so that we can proceed to the next step.
Fortunately, we are very glad that it was so successful that the first factory we stepped in, A-T Mould Sdn Bhd agreed and gave us the permission to do the site visit as well as giving us the required data and information. We were then get the contact information from Mr. Vincent, the director of A-T Mould Sdn Bhd and had an appointment with him the other day. On that night, we started a meeting and prepared the forms required so that the interview process on the other day could be run smoothly. It is so appreciated that he was so helpful and willing to share the experiences with us and also the manufacturing process of the company. He also asked the tooling engineer, Mr. Vincent, to bring us for a site visit and explain the process for us. In the end, we received the souvenirs which is the final product of their tooling process. Thanks again to A-T Mould which gave us this opportunity for having the industrial visits. The experiences gained were so valuable and memorable.
After collecting the data and information, we started to carry out the progress and have another meeting to analyze the data collected. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to Kah Mun, Sin Chee and Fatin as my teammates who gave so much cooperation and provided their thoughts and suggestions. Besides, I would like to thank Alvin Ng, our friend, for willing to fetch us to do the industrial visit even though he is from another group, and lastly thanks Prof. Dr. Wong for guiding us and gave us the valuable comments during the presentation so that we could acknowledge and do the corrections on it. Through this project, I feel that I learnt a lot from it and could apply the knowledge learnt from the course and apply it to practical. Not only the hard skills, but the soft skills as well which we need to pluck up the courage to ask for permission from the firm.
