7TH INTERNATIONAL BIOTECHNOLOGY COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION

Committee member as Publicity Executive and postgraduate category Emcee 

This two days event was held to provide a great platform for the local and international participants from various age categories and study programs to introduce their innovations, creativity and further enhance their knowledge in the field of biotechnology, green product, renewable energy and also waste treatment. Secondary school students also had the chance in this competition for video presentation while for pre-university till undergraduate students in poster presentation competition. In the main innovation international competition, it was open for undergraduate and postgraduate category. The event is held on the 11th and 12th of June 2021 through the online platform WebEx and streamyard due to the covid-19 outbreak. This event is held by the Bioprocess Student Society (BIOSS) and the position that I hold in this event is as publicity executive. Besides, I was also a volunteer as the emcee for postgraduate category competition event. This event aims to support the Sustainable Development Goals of Goal 4 (quality education), Goal 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), Goal 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and Goal 13 (climate action).

The impact of this position is on my creativity, language, communication and teamworking skills. Through this position, I had gained valuable experience on brainstorming ideas and enhance my creativities in caption writings for social media posts such as Facebook and Instagram. I have also enhanced my communication and teamworking skills as I am required to approach the media, other clubs and societies within UTM and also other universities including schools to cooperate in blasting the news regarding this competition and promoting it to the students. This was done by a two-way mechanism of helping each other to gain win-win situation for both sides and while able to build a great networking for future benefits. Moreover, the tasks to create many interesting and catchy captions with the appropriate good language is a very useful ability in this modernized digital era which will be helpful for generating income in the future if venture such field like online business. Publicity department was indeed an important team which leads to the students to gain courage and instill the interest to join the event and gain a valuable experience at international level with simple and cost saving procedures since it was held online.  We successfully gained 216 participants in total including our forum attendees. With the opportunity of being a volunteer for emcee, I had enhanced my confidence and gained courage. Finally, I also had the chance to express my creativity and writing skills in the news for UTM official news page regarding this event.
