5TH INTERNATIONAL BIOTECHNOLOGY COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION 2019

Committee member as Sponsorship Executive

This event was an effort of 6 months execution and two days event which was held to provide opportunities for the local and international participants to introduce their innovations and further enhance their knowledge in the field of biotechnology, green product, renewable energy and waste treatment while supporting the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals. The event was held on the 5th and 6th of April 2019 in Dewan Sultan Iskandar Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Johor. This event was held by the Bioprocess Student Society (BIOSS) and the position that I hold in this event was as a sponsorship executive. The event made me become more responsible, built a good networking with companies and students from local and also international universities and I also learnt a lot of soft skills while going through the process of seeking sponsorships before the event, during handling the event and also after the event for post mortem and updates for companies which sponsored the event. 

The impact of this position is on my communication and teamworking skills graduate attributes, this is because as I mentioned before, I was assigned to be a sponsorship executive. Through this position, I had gained valuable experience on communication skills as I learn and sharpen the abilities to send emails to corporate properly and talk on phone calls or during presentation with the persuasiveness and to grab attention from the public relations executives from various companies.  Moreover, it is undeniable that the event was successful due to the teamworking skills among the committee members and within sponsorship team as we performed the tasks to find and approach the companies by following the different fields such as food and beverages, bank, and etc. which has been divided . From this event, I have learnt that teamworking skills is very important among committee members to be able to complete the necessary tasks without affecting the event progress and also to move in the same directions to achieve the goals of the event besides having a good relationship among the members for a happier working environment. It was a great experience holding the position where during the event days in the hall, I have to deal with the sponsors who were present with having their booths open and ensure it all goes by smoothly. It was time consuming as I have to always follow up with the public relations executives from companies but I have successfully done it by good time management and gained sponsors worth of RM 5000.
