My Reflections Regarding All the Visits Throughout the Semester

One of the activities that were carried out in the Mall of Medini was design thinking. During this session, one of the members of One Maker Group hosted this session and told us many important messages regarding design thinking. After that, students were grouped and asked to make a prototype about one part of UTM that will look like in the future by using materials they provided. This session was carried out for roughly 2 hours.
Design thinking is a very important element when we are creating a product physically or even virtually. From this design thinking activity, I learnt that we must implement design thinking when we are developing a product by following the 5 essential steps of design thinking. This is very important as I will become a programmer or software developer in the future and I must utilize design thinking so that I can understand what people need develop an application or software that fulfill what people require for and solve their problems.
On the 24th November 2018, I had visited One Maker Group (OMG) at Mall of Medini, Iskandar, Johor Bahru. The purpose of this trip was to visit and learn more about OMG, their services and facilities that they provide to their clients. The students were first taken to Forest City and had a look at this futuristic residence area where technologies are implemented in it. After that, we reached the Mall of Medini and carried out many activities organized by the people of OMG.
From the visit, I knew that technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and 3D printing are so important that it is almost required in many fields nowadays. Therefore, I learned more about how the new technologies can be implemented in an organization or company to simplify the tasks. Therefore, I must study hard in order to achieve my ambition as a software developer in the future. This is so important because software developer can help improving and updating the software or applications that are required to operate the technologies constantly.
Besides, I should also learn some extra knowledge aside from what I have learnt in university. I can do more researches regarding the new technology so that I will always follow up the things that are happening around the world. For an example, I can learn things abour VR and 3D printing by taking extra courses from organizations such as One Maker Group. Other than that, I can also learn anything I want in related to new technology through Internet as i can get everything I want from there.
On the 1st of October 2018, I attended a visit to the Center for Information and Communication Technology (CICT) organized by the School of Computing. During this visit, students had attended a talk hosted by Mr. Mohd Zahari Zanal Abidin, one of the customer relationship management (CRM) officers in CICT. After that, students were brought to a “mini museum” where various generations of computers and their accessories were displayed in it.
From the visit, I knew that ICT is so important that it is almost required in any fields nowadays. Therefore, I learned more about how ICT works in an organization or a company such as how CICT operates in UTM. This is so important because it is related to my future career as a programmer or a software developer. Hence, I will study hard and get good academic results so that I can easily adapt my working environment in the future.
Other than studying hard, I should also learn some extra knowledges other than the syllabus of the course that I have taken. For an example, I learn C++ programming language in my class and I should also learn other programming language such as Python and Java so that I am more capable of programming with different kind of programming languages. Besides, I can also do more researches for other subjects so that I can more understand and knowledgeable during the class.
NALI Exhibition is a showcase event that is themed by implementation of technologies in the Malaysia education system. It is held by more than 70 booths showcasing various concepts and interesting ideas of the improvement of education in Malaysia. This exhibition was held at Dewan Sultan Iskandar and it had been held for 2 days. I went to the exhibition with my groupmates and we visited some of the booths to make a report regarding them.
From NALI Exhibition, we learnt that education can be very interesting with the help of technology and information systems. Nowadays, people must learn to adapt new ways of education instead of using only textbooks, pen, papers and whiteboards. Technology is implemented in education system such as Virtual Reality (VR) can be used as a teaching material so that students can much more understand the syllabus they are learning.
Besides, people can graduate with a degree without even going to universities by taking online courses provided by universities nowadays. Moreover, students nowadays can get unlimited of knowledges as they can learn anything by searching what they want through the Internet. Technology not only simplify the tasks of teachers and lecturers, it can also help to improve the education system in Malaysia. In conclusion, we must fully implement the use of technology so that we are always updated with everything new that occurs in all around the world as we are approaching the 4th Industrial Revolution.
On 24th September 2018, I was asked to attend an industrial talk regarding eRezeki from MDEC located at Seminar Hall, N28A, School of Computing. The talk was presented by Mr. Mohd Ihsanuddin Jamhari, the master trainer of a program called Global Online Workforce (GLOW). From his talk, he explained to us that MDEC provides three main programs, which are eUsahawan, eRezeki and GLOW. Besides, he introduced us freelancing and told us the benefits of becoming a freelancer.
In my opinion, I think that the industrial talk is applicable to my studies and my future. There are many things I had learnt from the industrial talk. Firstly, I had known that technology and information system has become more n more important in our lives. Using technology wisely can bring a lot of benefits to us and make our lives better. For example, I was amazed by the talk as I never knew that business or economy can be carried out in such an effective and useful way with the use of the technology advancement. As we are approaching the 4th Industrial Revolution, we must fully utilize the use of the modern technology especially the Internet so that we can survive in the new era and will not fall behind the trend.
Besides, I was told that we need to accept and adapt something that is new to us nowadays. We need to be the innovators who try new idea at certain risk instead of being lagging adopters who bounded by tradition and reluctant to make any changes. Freelancer is not only an interesting job but also a worthwhile career to invest, Hence, freelancer would be my consideration in my future career. Last but not least, I would like to take this great opportunity to thank my lecturer, Dr. Nor Bahiah binti Haji Ahmad, for letting us to attend this meaningful and useful industrial talk. I really enjoyed myself and learnt a lot from the talk that I attended. I hope to attend more talks like this next time so that I can learn more about technology and information system.
My Overall Reflection
Overall, I have learnt a lot throughout the semester. Firstly, I feel very fortunate that I have opportunities to visit to some talks, exhibitions and even a maker group that I never thought I can visit before then. Through the visits, I can say that I have learnt something new that is related to technologies. Secondly, I am very happy that I can get to assemble and disassemble a computer. This helps me a lot as I can more understand the computer hardware by really seeing the internal hardware of the computer. Not only that, I have learnt the important of team working throughout the semester. I had assigned to a group of 5 people from the beginning of the semester and ever since then we did most of our assignments and reports together. Throughout the group assignments, we were able to discuss together and split our tasks so that our assignments can be done easily. Last but not least, I want to thank my lecturer, Dr. Nor Bahiah for teaching and guiding me throughout the semester. Without her clear and understand teaching with patience, I will be sure cannot catch up with my studies and lost my passion with this course. By taking this subject, I have a clearer view of my future career as a software developer on how technologies work in our everyday lives and how technologies influence the world and our future generation as we are approaching Revolution 4.0 very soon.
