Mini Report

The " I am a Fighter" program was held on 24 April 2021 which was on Saturday and the program started on 2.30 pm until 4.00 pm. The program was held on Cisco Webex platform and also at the same time streamed in Facebook live. The aim of the program was to create awareness regarding the cancer to the society and gain more knowledge about it. The reason why I joined the program is because I think that the content of the program is interesting and useful for me and also for the society. In my opinion, many more communities out there are unaware of the importance of knowledge of caring for cancer patients. Therefore, I joined the program to help the community to learn more about how to care for cancer patients not only physically, but mentally.

Through the program, the graduate attribute that I gained is communication skills. To ensure that the program run smoothly, communication is vital between the committee members. As I had to make sure that the Kahoot games run smoothly, I am able to communicate wells with the other committee members even though I met them for the first time. The program really made me realize the importance of communication in order to achieve the goals. The other graduate attribute that I gained related with this program is leadership and teamworking skills. The program taught me the importance of teamworking as I saw the positive outcome from the cooperation from all of the committee members.

The session in the program was explanation about how to become a cancer caregiver from psychological perspective by Mr Mansurni Abadi, UKM Master Anthropology. The program really deliver beneficial knowledge to the community about the ways to handle patient who suffer from cancer physically and mentally. Self Reflection

Graduate attributes that I gained from this program really helped me in many ways. Communication skills is really important not only in the program, but also in our everyday life. It make me realize that if we can communicate well with others, it facilitate us in delivering information or task to other people and good communication can ensure that the other people understand what we want to deliver. Also, leadership and teamworking skills is crucial in order to achieve our goals. As for me, I believed that teamworking between the committee members really helped in making sure that the program runs smoothly.

Moreover, there are a lot of formation that I gained from the sharing session on how to become a cancer caregiver from psychological perspective by Mr Mansurni Abadi, UKM Master Anthropology. No one in my family and friends that suffer from cancer causing me to have no knowledge at all about how to take care of people that suffer from cancer. Before, I never thought about learning about the proper ways to take care of cancer patients. I just know about the issue of cancer, the symptoms of cancer and how to avoid getting cancer based on healthy lifestyles. Through this charity program, it made me realized about the importance of the knowledge on how to become a cancer caregiver from psychological perspective. It made me think that it is very useful knowledge that I can apply in the future in case one of my family or friends may suffer from cancer.

Through the sharing session, I understand that to become a caregiver, first I must see the person that I take care of as human being. As we know, person who suffer from any illness including cancer have a sensitive feeling. So, we as a caregiver have to understand their feeling and treat them with respect. Next, I understand that a caregiver must not bring along their problems during taking care of person with cancer. For example, if a caregiver stress with their work and taking it out on person with cancer, it will hurt their feeling and worsen their condition. Most importantly, we have also have to take care of ourselves. So, there are many beneficial knowledge that I can from the charity program which I wish I can apply in the future and also share it with other people who need it.

Apart from the fun of gaining new knowledge, there were also challenges that I faced during the program. One of the challenges that I faced during the program was bad internet connection. As the program was held through the online platform which were Cisco Webex and streamed Youtube, it required a good internet connection. Due to the bad internet connection, I cannot follow really well about the program’s flow and cannot contribute a lot as the online platform stuck. The other challenge is the program have to held on online platform. At first, this charity program was planned to be held physically, but due to pandemic COVID-19 that worsen from time to time, we have to change our plan to held the program on online platform which is quiet challenging for everybody. Although there were many challenges that I faced during the program, there always had a solution which is the good cooperation and communication between the committee members in handling the program.
