UTM Robocon Web Development Workshop

1) Mini Report:

Justification in joining the activities:

UTM Robocon Team had organized a web development workshop. The focus of this workshop is to share the way to develop a website. Students who wanted to develop a website but did not know how to start it were welcomed to join this activity. I had zero knowledge of how to develop a website and that was the strong reason I joined this workshop with my friend. I wanted to know how to develop a website because I think I will need to use this knowledge in the future.

The Graduate Attributes that are focused on:

• Communication Skills
  • This workshop had focused on one of the graduate attributes which is communication skills. There were lots of topics about web development shared during the workshop. The organizer stated that the participants who did not understand on any part could ask anything at any time to the facilitators or the speakers during the program. I could not keep up with the speakers multiple times as it was quite fast for me. I had to ask the facilitators to help me catch up with the hands-on activities. Therefore, I got to improve my communication skills by speaking with someone who I just met.

Content of the activities:

The program started with registration and breakfast. The opening speech of the program was given by Dr. Afnizanfaizal. The next event was the installation of Vscode which is the application software that was used until the end of the program. The first presenter taught us about HTML and followed by a hands-on activity. There was a one-hour break for lunch and continued with the second presenter who taught us about the first part of CSS. The participants were given 15 minutes break before continued to learn about the second part of CSS. Next, there was a hands-on activity for 30 minutes and 10 minutes break after that. The program continued with the third presenter who taught us about Bootstrap and followed by the last presenter who taught us about website design. At 5 p.m., the program ended.

2) Self Reflection:

This activity gives a positive impact on the development of my Graduates Attributes especially on communication skills. This program encouraged participants to ask anything if they could not understand during the teaching session. I had lost focus on some moments and I had to ask the facilitators and my friend when I could not understand some part of the lessons. By talking to someone who I just met, like the facilitators, I got to improve my communication skills. This can help me when I am in a new environment with new people. The advantage of this activity is that I can use this knowledge when I am going to develop my own website. Therefore, I can save some money when developing a website. The challenge that I faced during the activity was, I am not used to HTML, CSS and Bootstrap. I just familiar with C++ and Java hence it was quite hard for me to understand quickly during the teaching session. I overcame this problem by asking the facilitators and my friend about any part of the lessons that I did not understand. As a result, I able to do the hands-on activities correctly.
