1) Mini Report:

Justification in joining the activities:

Kelab Iqra UTM had organized a workshop named as 'Bengkel Asas OBS'. This program was led by Muhammad Syafiyadiy Bin Jamaludin, a student from the School of Electrical Engineering. The objectives and goals of this program are to expose the students to the basic software of live broadcast and to help other clubs in UTM to use this knowledge to implement future programs that need to do a live broadcast. The reason I joined this workshop is to learn how to do a live broadcast. I had zero knowledge of how to do the live broadcast because I did not know the software to be used and the correct procedure to run a live broadcast successfully. Moreover, this program used software named Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) which is free to download and use hence the fee of this program was cheap that made me thought this workshop was worth joining.

The Graduate Attributes that are focused on:

  • Leadership and Teamworking Skills
    • This workshop had focused on one of the Graduate Attributes which is leadership and teamworking skills. The participants were encouraged to communicate with each other in the program.  I could ask any question when I did not understand any part during the sharing session. This taught me to communicate with new people easily which can improve the leadership and teamworking skills in terms of communication with team members.

Content of the activities:

Before the day of the workshop, participants were told to download the OBS software and a zip file so that the workshop could run smoothly without any interruption like the need to wait for a long time for the downloading process which will consume time. The workshop was held on Friday at 10 a.m. via Google Meet. The first sharing session was presented by Amal Solehah Binti Aidiahmad, a student from the School of Human Resource Development and Psychology. While she is presenting, the participants did hands-on activities following her actions using OBS. At first, she taught us what to do when opening the OBS software for the first time. She only taught us the basic things that are important when using the software. By knowing the basics, we can do the live broadcast easily. She explained in detail the function of each basic feature of OBS and taught us how to put any media on the screen that will be shown in the live broadcast. Moreover, she also shared how to make Facebook live through OBS. She explained every step carefully which lead to all participants can make the live video on Facebook successfully. The second sharing session was presented by Muaz Bin Amir Nur Rashid, a student from the School of Computing. He shared the tips and tricks of OBS. At first, he taught us about scene management. He also shared several links which provide free OBS overlay. Next, he taught also taught us about stinger transition. Moreover, he also mentioned normal errors when streaming. He also explained to us on bitrate and remux recording. At the last of his presentation, he offered to teach how to stream games personally to the participants because it will take a long time to share in the workshop. At 12 noon, the workshop ended.

2) Self Reflection:

By joining this activity, it gives a positive impact on the development of my Graduate Attributes. During this activity, I met a lot of new people. I was glad that I did not feel awkward when joining the Google Meet. This can help me to work effectively in a team with new members. By asking questions to the facilitator, it can improve my communication skills which is also improving my leadership skills because it makes me become braver to say something to someone who I just met. I gained new knowledge which is about how to stream live videos using OBS software. Before this, I only know how to edit simple videos. I had downloaded this software a long time ago, but I uninstalled it because I did not know how to use it as it is quite difficult to use for a new user. After I joined this activity, I able to understand easily how to use this software to edit any video or streaming a live video. This is a great advantage because I can use this knowledge to conduct my own online program in the future. During this activity, I lost internet connection for a while which caused me to lose some information shared by the presenter at that moment. I overcame this problem by asking my friend and the facilitator for help on the part where I missed. Gladly, I managed to follow back and able to complete all steps shared by the presenter.
