SELF REFLECTION OF THINKING (UHMT 1012)

CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING

Critical thinking is the ability to analyse information objectively and make a reasoned judgment. (Tomaszweski, 2019) What I learn from this topic is we use our brain to thinking rationally in any situations. Every problem must be solved by critical thinking. Before we take an action to solving problem, we must identify and analyse what the problem is. We must make pros and cons in every decision we make. While making a decision or conclusion, we must think in detail about the cause and effect. To use critical thinking, we need to make an observation because from observation, we learn something to gain our knowledge. Critical thinking is important to make our argument becoming strongest. Sometimes we use critical thinking in argument because if we hear once statement form others, we need a proof and we must think many questions such as what, why, where and when.

In university, we use more critical thinking in studies. For example, we study once topic on our subject and before we understand the topic, we must identify and analyse what the topic about. After that, we can understand clearly about that topic. We can evaluate what we learn after class. If we don’t understand about that topic, we can ask the lecturer because from asking we can be a critical thinker.  If we have some issue, we can make a discussion with classmates. We listen carefully about others opinion and make a comparison with us. Then, we give some feedback. From that we learn more than we know. Being open minded to hear other opinion and think that they have some opinion too not just us. If we a critical thinker, we don’t accept the opinion without evidence so from that, we must ask them the evidence and more explanation.(Cottrell, 2017) Before asking, we must make an observation and listen carefully from them then, we can ask them with politely. This situation can help us in studies to become more interesting.

We use critical thinking in solving problems. Student’s life in university is more challenging and we will get some problems with it. We get problems in many situations such studies, money, time management, illness, and more. So, what we can do is solving the problems with rationally. We can’t make a fast decision or jumping to the conclusion without thinking. For example, if we have financial problems, we can’t make a decision to quit study but we think with rationally how we can solve the problems. We can ask family, friends, lecturer and counsellor to taking some advices that can help us to make a decision. We can do a part time job such as online business to get some extra money. We must think in positive and negative perspective and make a comparison. Be a critical thinker is not easy but we can practise because practise makes perfect.

Creative thinking is a way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective that suggests unorthodox solutions which may look unsettling at first. (Aizikovitsh-Udi, 2011) Creativity always starts with imagination, and history shows that many things we imagine are later actually created. What I learn from this topic is sometimes we need thinking outside of the box. We can’t be logically every time. We must be creative to think something different with other peoples. Creative thinking is an invaluable skill for student. It’s important because it helps us look at problems and situations from a fresh perspective. Creating thinking is a way to develop novel or unorthodox solutions that do not depend on past or current solutions. It’s a way of employing strategies to clear our mind so that our thoughts and ideas can transcend what appear to be the limitations of a problem. Creative thinking is a way of moving beyond barriers. As a creative thinker, we are curious, optimistic, and imaginative. We see problems as interesting opportunities, and you challenge assumptions and suspend judgment.

How we can apply creative thinking at university’s life is we create some creative idea while discussion in classroom. Creative thinker will think something possible and wonders of the world. For example, in club meeting, they ask some idea to do some activity at program. So, creative thinker will give some creative idea such as activity that people never do like eating chocolate with straw or something else. People must think that idea is crazy but it is not possible to do if we want to do. Sometimes creative idea give benefit to others. To be a creative thinker, we must brave to take a risk. Sometimes people not accept our ideas but don’t take that seriously. We can try with another idea. If people judge or give a comment to our idea, we must accept it because creative thinker must be open minded.

As a student, we can use creative thinking to change the style of study such as we make an idea how to do some creative notes for easy to remember. Sometimes we don’t understand the notes that we write but if we make some interesting note such as colourful or make a carton character it will attract us to reading that notes. If we don’t like to writing we can change with something else like talking. We understand about that topic then we talking but not talking with people. We talking with something else like pillow. We talk everything that we understand about that topic. From my experience, I ever talk with my teddy bear about what I’m study at that night and that help me to remember for my examination. People will think that we are crazy but for us it is very helpful. We can make design sample exam questions to test our knowledge as we study for a final. It can be some creative idea too. For me, as a creative thinker we must always trying to do something new. Don’t be afraid to trying because we must have a confidence. We must allow our mind to wander a few times every day. Far from being a waste of time, daydreaming has been found to be an essential part of generating new ideas. If we are stuck on a problem or creatively blocked, think about something else for a while. Sometimes we don’t need a high IQ level to be a creative thinker because everyone can be a creative thinker.
