 The journey of my internship :)

Company: National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

Time: 8.00 am – 5.00 pm

Date/ Day: 2 July 2018 – Monday

Activities:

• Doing the report compiling of Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) and Initial Exposure Noise Monitoring (NOISE) for the 2 companies in Perak which are TPI Paper Product Industries SDN BHD and Kamunting C.H. Industries SDN BHD
• Having a discussion session with the supervisor about the report for OSH Compliance Support Programme.

Date/ Day: 3 July 2018 – Tuesday

Activities:

• Settle all the reports for the 10 companies about the OSH Compliance Support Programme.
• I have been assigned to the LAB Division by my supervisor, Encik Hanafi to learn about the job scope in the laboratory

Date/ Day: 4 July 2018 – Wednesday

Activities:

• The manager of LAB Division, Encik Hafsam gave a briefing about the scope in the LAB Division and I have been assigned to be under Cik Dayana
• Studied about the LAB Division and all the equipment used in the laboratory.
• Went to the Finance Department to request the invoice from the PERKESO for the OSH Compliance Support Programme.
• Learned all the steps to be done when managing a programme.

Date/ Day: 5 July 2018 – Thursday

Activities:

• Enter the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory at 8.45 am with Cik Dayana.
• Being exposed with the machines that have been used in the lab.
• Learned the process of the urinary test for the workers that being exposed in the industries.
• Measured the Specific Gravity (SG) and the creatinine level of the urine using DIRUI CS-400 (automatic chemistry analyzer) and refractometer.

Specific gravity

• Specific gravity (SG) is a measure of the concentration of solutes in the urine.
• The Specific gravity (SG) measures the ratio of urine density compared with the water density.
• It provide the information on the kidney's ability to concentrate urine. The reference range is 1.005 - 1.030.

Creatinine level

• As for the creatinine level, the test is done to see the how the kidney works.
•  Creatine is a chemical the body makes to supply energy, mainly to muscles.
• Creatinine is removed by the body entirely by the kidneys. If kidney function is not normal, creatinine level in your urine decreases.

Date/ Day: 6 July 2018 – Friday

Activities:

•  Cik Dayana assigned me to key in the data that we obtained from the test that we conducted in the laboratory yesterday about the specific gravity and the creatinine level.
• I have been told by Encik Azswan Azrul to join the Industrial Hygiene Division to do a project at PS Pipeline in Dengkil for 3 days which is at 17 july 2018 until 19 july 2018.
