The journey of my internship :)
Company: National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
Time: 8.00 am – 4.30 pm
Date/Day : 11 June 2018 - Monday
Activities :
- Arrived at HR department at 8.00am
- Report to the HR department
- The person in charge in HR department briefed about the rules and regulation and organization in the company
- Transfer to the department which is CRD ( Consultation Research Development Department)
- Encik Hanafi gave a briefing about the work division in the CRD.
- There are 6 divisions in CRD which are Occupational Safety and Health Management Division (OSHMD), Industrial Hygiene Division(IHD), Occupational Health Division (OHD), Occupational Safety Division (OSD), Laboratory Division (LABD), Innovation and Technology Division (INTD).
- I was assigned under OSHMD division.
- I was given the task of understanding the function of NIOSH and all the departments under NIOSH.
- The function of NIOSH is provide training, consultation services, disseminate information and conduct research in the field of occupational safety and health.
- Lastly, we have a simple self-introduction session with the staffs in the department
- Going back home at 4.30 pm

Activities :
- I have been given a task from Encik Hanafi to study and understand about the work in OSHMD division.
- Understanding all the responsibilities for OSHMD which are :
- Provide consultancy service on legal compliance, Osh solution, advisory service & technical / establish service.
- Promote OSHMD service to the related sectors and industries.
- Conduct research and pertaining to OSH management issue
- Development of new services, client, and new product.
- Support another division under CRD & NIOSH as a whole.
- Studied all the standard that have been used to build a system from the old standard to the newest.
- MS 1722, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001 are the three standard that have been used
- The newest standard that have been used is ISO 45001 (International Organization of Standardization) which was published in 12 March 2018.
- Going back home at 4.30 pm

Activities :
- I have given a task on understanding the OSHMS (Occupational Health and Safety Management System):
- OSH Management System is a tool for continual improvement.
- OHS Management System is a coordinated and systematic approach to managing health and safety risks.
- OHS Management System help organizations to continually improve their safety performance and compliance to health and safety legislation and standards.
- understanding the objectives of OHS Management System which are :
- provide a framework for managing Occupational Safety and Health(OH&S) risks
- to prevent work-related injury and ill health to workers
- provide safe and healthy workplace
- eliminate hazard and minimize OH&S risks (for organizations)
