CENTRE FOR INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (CICT)
The Centre for Information & Communication Technologgy (CICT) is on the hook to ensure that every staff and student owns the admittance to teach, learn, and do a research on ICT resources by preparing the university IT infrastructure, bringing in, developing and promoting latest technologies and systems, and providing access to digital resources across the university campuses. The purpose of CICT are to boost the adoption about Information Technology in all university activities, provide secured ICT infrastructure and facilities, explore latest technologies in ICT utilities, boost ICT capabilities of the university community and become a reference center in ICT Services and Center of Software and Application development in the university. Moreover, CICT is also a platform that contributes the ICT services for the staffs and students in the university especially in ICT infrastructure, system development and intellectual/administrative activities.
CICT achieves two achievements in 2017 which are Standard Accounting System For Government Agencies and the most active PTJ aerobics. The CICT’s team that has successfully provided the best technical documents and they achieve the Standard Accounting System For Government Agencies award that given by Pihak Jabatan Akauntan Negara Malaysia on 22 November 2017. UTM is among 59 of 416 agencies that have successfully received SAGA Compliance Certificate recognition other than USM, UPSI, UMP, UPNM, UNISZA, UTHM and UPM. The CICT’s team won the most active PTJ aerobics session 2/2017 for Zon Arcturus on 7 February 2017, the venue is at Stadium Azman Hashim UTM Johor Bahru. 50 of 123 CICT’s staffs that join the program and it is affect 40.7 % the statistics of people joining the program.
The services that are provided by the CICT are divided into four sections which are Infrastructure And Security, Application Development, Software and also Facilities. Some of the examples of the given services are ID account and access (ACID) , WiFi, mobile apps, multimedia development, antivirus, software license by UTM and training lab. (Home, n.d.) All of these services will help the students to find information about the subjects learned by using WiFi. The antivirus provided will help us to prevent our laptop from all kinds of viruses that will somehow make our files loses.
Next, the CICT provide the fastest wifi for all the students and staff UTM. Now, they only provide only 1GB of data and they plan to upgrade into 2GB of data. The upgrade is on process. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia ( UTM ) encourages all students to use licensed software .Therefore, the Information and Communications Technology ( CICT ) has been tasked with operating the software in UTM . As a service center licensed software to users in UTM , the CICT provides several rules that must be obeyed users . CICT UTM has also been tasked with controlling the microsoft website for use by all users at UTM. Microsoft ‘s software for FREE by MOE (Ministry of Education ) to staff and students . In order to improve user’s computer security, the university has introduced the new antivirus software for all users in UTM. Users are encouraged to switch to this new symantec antivirus.
I gained many knowledge about computer and technology and it had open my eyes on how can I tell the Malaysians about the benefits of computer and technology. As a student who is high spirit, I have set my own goal. My goal is to make sure that all Malaysian will know about the benefits of computer and technology. It looks simple but when more people know about the benefits of computer and technology, our country will soon be one of the most developed country in the world. When more people know about the benefits of computer and technology, there will be more experts in the computing sector in our country. As the experts are increasing, our daily task or work will be easier to be completed. For example, a businessman can easily sell their products to their customer if they have knowledge in computer and technology. They may create their own application or websites that are only promote and sell their products. This will increase their company’s profits as it will make both the businessman and their customer interaction in doing business become easier. Not only that, the Malaysians may develop or invent new types of computer that may be the best in the world. As you know the computers nowadays are created by the people who live in a country where subject about computer are usually have been taught by their teachers since primary school level. So, if we do this in Malaysia, the Malaysian will fight among themselves to create the best idea to develop the best computer in the world which will gain high profits to the Malaysian to develop our own country.
