Report

The event happened around halfway of semester 2 of year 1. This is when the pandemic started spreading across Malaysia and we were all stuck inside. I was introduced to this event by my friends who also wanted to go out to do some outdoor activity. The event is organized by a club I'm in which is the Social and Recreational Club. the first graduate attributes related is communication. Communication is important in rock climbing to spot out ways to climb and overcome a problem with the other members. second attributes related is thinking skills. Even with the help of other members, I still need to think and solve on how to climb the wall. lastly, adaptability. I needed to adapt to a new environment as I was not used to climbing and the proper techniques. The content of the activity is we gathered at the club room and head out together to the Climbing Centre which we then warm up and climb until 10PM. We cool down and head back to UTM to conclude the event.

Self-Reflection

The impact of the activity on my graduate attributes has leave a few trace of it. the activity has shown me that there is more ways to communicate and ways to solve a problem. Problem solving is important in our life especially in the field of computer science as there are many ways to solve a problem. The activity has helped me to think outside the box on how to solve a certain problem, in this case, a wall climbing route. Although I needed to get used to it and adapt to rock climbing, it was not the first time that I climbed. My advantages lies in my previous years of recreational climbing with my school friends. I believe those times helped me in a way during the activity. The challenges I faced during the activity is my endurance and energy. I ran out of strength quick and cannot hold on long as I wished I have. To overcome this, I took longer rest in between climbs and asked the seniors on how they manage their energy during the climb as it was not a technique I possessed that time.
