Mini Report
DIABOLO 5.0 is the first physical offline weekly diabolo training since the pandemic. The activity aims to let all the participants learn how to play diabolo and promote diabolo to more people. The reason I join this activity is that I am interested in this traditional activity and it can bring me on a journey of self-discovery and self-growth.
The activity focuses on several UTM Graduate Attributes. First is communication skills. Communication skills are emphasized when learning the new trick. The participant can learn and discuss with each other the movement of the trick. This provides the participant to have the opportunity to express their thought and experience which allow the participant to develop their communication skill.
Secondly, thinking skills were also fostered throughout the activity. This is because diabolo involves complex movement, hand-eye coordination, and pattern recognition. The participants are given a chance to practice their critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning in order to master the trick.
Developing leadership and teamworking skills was also focused on throughout the activity. Diabolo can be performed in a team hence this provides the participant the chance to collaborate with each other and foster leadership and teamworking skill.
The content of the activity includes an ice-breaking session, a teaching and learning session and self-practice time.
In conclusion, this activity provides a good platform for UTM students who are interested in diabolo to learn more about it and develop their communication skills, thinking skills and leadership and teamworking skills.
Self-Reflection
Participating in the Diabolo 5.0 activity had a positive impact on the development of my Student Graduate Attributes. Firstly, this activity has significantly enhanced my communication skills. This is because discussing the movement and the trick with other participants allowed me to learn how to effectively communicate with others to convey my ideas and the problem I faced. Secondly, this activity has strengthened my thinking skills. This is because learning new tricks required critical thinking and problem solving. Therefore, I have learned to break the tasks into small manageable steps and adapt my approach when faced with challenges. Furthermore, I also improved my leadership and teamworking skills because we work as a team and we will help each other when they have faced some problems.
One of my strengths in this activity is my quick learning ability. I have been able to grasp the basic movements and techniques involved in diabolo rapidly. Additionally, my unwavering determination and consistent practice have allowed me to progress and master more complex tricks.
Despite the benefits, I have faced challenges during this activity, especially in synchronizing movements and timing within the team. To overcome this, we have dedicated ample time to practice, focused on building trust and understanding among team members, and improved our communication.
In conclusion, participating in the Diabolo 5.0 activity has been positively impacting my personal growth and cultivating important Student Graduate Attributes that will serve me well in the future.
