Mini Report

The webinar on Ecology and Biodiversity, organized by AIESEC in Johor Bahru, is an activity I joined to learn more about environmental care and increase awareness of the importance of biodiversity. This activity focuses on various student graduate attributes. Firstly, it helps improve students' communication skills. Participants are given the chance to discuss topics such as the importance of trees in cities and engage in Q&A sessions where they can ask questions.

Moreover, this activity also emphasizes engaging students' thinking skills. Participants are encouraged to contemplate the consequences of diminishing green spaces in the world, both for humans and animals, and explore potential solutions to this problem. This prompts participants to consider issues they may not have previously contemplated and enhances awareness of the importance of environmental conservation.

Furthermore, the activity focuses on fostering students' adaptability. It introduces the dynamic nature of urban rewilding and biodiversity projects to students, enabling them to become more knowledgeable about urban rewilding and easily adapt to its implementation when it becomes a reality.

The activity encompasses several key components, starting with an introduction to the main theme of the webinar. This introduction provides an overview of ecology and biodiversity, setting the stage for further discussions.

One important topic that is explored in-depth is the significance of trees in urban environments. The participants engage in a discussion about the importance of trees in cities, recognizing their numerous benefits such as improving air quality, providing shade, reducing noise pollution, and supporting biodiversity. The session delves into the role of trees in creating healthier and more sustainable urban landscapes.

Another focal point of the activity is an informative talk on urban wildlife and urban rewilding. Participants gain insights into the concept of urban wildlife, which refers to the diverse range of animal species that inhabit urban areas. They learn about the challenges faced by wildlife in cities and the importance of creating suitable habitats to support their survival.

The activity concludes with a presentation on how to rewild, emphasizing practical steps that can be taken to restore and enhance biodiversity in urban environments. Participants explore strategies such as turning green spaces into shared habitats and growing plants to support urban wildlife.

In conclusion, this activity provides the participants with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of trees in cities, the concept of urban wildlife, and practical approaches to rewilding. This activity not only imparts knowledge and awareness regarding ecological and biodiversity issues but also actively enhances students' communication skills, thinking skills, and adaptability. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills, participants are empowered to become active agents of change in their communities and contribute to a more sustainable and biodiverse future.

Self-Reflection

By participating in the AIESEC Webinar: Ecology and Biodiversity, I have experienced a positive impact on the development of student graduate attributes. Firstly, the engaging discussion sessions focusing on topics such as the importance of trees and solutions for threats to urban wildlife have significantly improved my communication skills. Through active participation and exchanging ideas with others, I have learned how to effectively convey my thoughts and perspectives while also listening attentively to others' viewpoints.

Additionally, this activity has greatly enhanced my thinking skills. Prior to this, I had not given much thought to concepts such as urban wildlife and the need for urban rewilding. However, through my involvement in this activity, I have gained valuable insights and developed a heightened awareness of the importance of environmental conservation. This has encouraged me to think critically about the challenges we face and to explore innovative solutions to address them.

Moreover, this activity has contributed to the development of my adaptability. By being exposed to the concept of urban wildlife and its implications, I have become more open-minded and accepting of change. I now recognize the significance of adapting to new ideas and approaches in order to contribute effectively to the protection and preservation of our environment.

One of my self strengths in this activity is my critical thinking skills which allow me to analyze the problem and propose innovative solutions. This enables me to contribute valuable insights and actively participate in problem-solving discussions during the activity.

I also face some challenges during the activity which is the fear of expressing my ideas or opinions due to lack of confidence. To address this challenge, I can work on building my self-confidence and remind myself that everyone participating in this activity is there to learn and share knowledge. Recognizing that my perspectives and contributions are valuable and unique can help boost my confidence.

In conclusion, participating in this activity has been positively impacting my personal growth and cultivating important Student Graduate Attributes that will serve me well in the future.
