WEEK 1
First time arrived at I- Stone System sdn bhd. after waiting for a while in the lobby, then we meet with Ms Cherry, the admin. we settle all the document needed. After that, we have a briefing about the company profile. then we continue with visit to all the department and I was assigned to be in mechanical engineering department.
I was given a task by Ms Fatimah, the mechanical engineer to help her to draw a 3D model using Solidwork software. I learn how to do reverse engineering based on the model which are the circuit board and a small screen.yesterday drawing need to be adjusted as there are several mistakes. The engineer told me what the mistake with the PCB board drawing are. The drawing actually will be used to fabricate a new circuit board. A small mistake will alter the shape on the PCB board. After done 3D drawing, I learn several new features in Solidwork.
In this week also, I have been brought to a client company, SKP Sdn Bhd to observe how they manufacture the product meanwhile the engineer does a maintenance job. Mr Azahari the mechanical engineer brings me to the production department to see how the technician assemble the product. In production area also where the electrical and software engineer working together to finish the product.
This week also Mr Shin, explained on the company flow matrix, from how the company gets order until they send the product to the customer.
WEEK 2
Mr Shin explained the detailed of the company process. I learn several lessons when meet with the supervisor of production department Mr Midzi about the standard parts, name of materials, bolt, nuts and screws standard.
Mr shin also bring me to the purchasing department and assign me a task to check faulty on the units that has been sent back to our company. After checking, I need to sort the information using Microsoft Excel.
Mr been our supervisor and also the senior engineer give a task to me. he gives solidwork task. After done 3d drawing then he checks and tell us what the mistakes are and what are the correct format to do drawing according to the industry application. I also learn to do assembly in solidwork as Mr been gives the task to us. I have to create the parts and assemble it together by using mate function.
WEEK 3
My supervisor checks my 3D drawing then he points out several things that I should adjust. I did the adjustment and change what Mr been told me. I also help in assemble a part in production area. The part has a problem where the space is not aligned properly. After check properly, there are error in screw assembly. The part is much shorter than the actual part. It has mixed up with other models which look alike. So, we modified it to fix it.
In this week, mr Aizat the engineer and another technician bring me to VS Sdn. Bhd to setting a machine that has problem. The machine is a tester machine that test on the air flow and pressure to check if the unit under test (UUT) has no leakage or not. The problems are that the holder of the UUT is made from steel block which actually can affect the UUT, so the engineer changed the material that suitable to hold the UUT. And the other problem is that the height of the rod that press the UUT is too high which effect the pressure and cause air leakage. So, they adjust the height.
Mr Been also explain on the mechanism of a tester to me in this week. The tester is used to check the condition of a PCB, he also explain the importance of ESD material to prevent static charge from damaging the pcb.
WEEK 4
Shahriman, a student from UTP also having internship here explain to me and teach me several things regarding the machines that he follow the progress. He shows to me how the machine works. We discuss a lot on that particular machine.
Next day, we attend a solidwork class that held by Mr Himon to teach us more on solidwork. I learned a lot especially on sheet metal forming, weldment and a lot of new shortcut on solidwork to ease the process of making 3D drawing. The class is very different from any class that I attend before because we learned in the perspective of industrial application.
This week also I got a new task from Mr Been. This time I need to design a rack to hold a 49 inch television. Some of the part I have to find in the internet. After finish my drawing, mr been check and give suggestion on how to improve my design. After that mr been take photo of my design and give it to someone. After fews day he told me that my design is used as the idea to design a real tv rack. I feel proud that I can help them in my internship period.
WEEK 5 AND 6
for these two weeks, mr Been given a task which is to design holders for circuit board. the circuit board need to be inspected. The reason to have this holder is to make sure the inspection can run smoothly. I need to take account all the type of circuit board. Each PCB has different size. The alignment of holes is also different for each pcbs.
The previous design is that every model has a holder. So, this time I need to make it possible if I can design several holders for all the models. This can help to reduce cost and improves effectiveness for the machines.
There are several models, which are x620, x248f, x248l, x285, and x285a. model x248l and x248f are almost the same. As x620 is smaller, so it also can be combined. So, the holder for this model can be made into 1 holder. For x285 and x285a, this holder also can be combined to be one. Even though the size and design are different, we still can make it to combine by considering the shape. Therefore for 5 models, I can combine to just be 2 holders for all the models.
What I learned is that I have to be creative to find way how to combine these holders. Surely there are a lot of ways. But the most important is that the cost should be low enough. All industry concern about cost. One more thing is that, I have to be really cautious on the aspect of precision. Every hole needs to be aligned correctly.
WEEK 7
This week I explore and learn several types of material that are usually used in designing process. I learn about Electrostatic discharge (ESd) material.
Electrostatic discharge (ESd) materials are plastics that reduce static electricity in order to protect electrostatic-sensitive devices or to contain flammable liquids or gases. These materials are divided into three categories: anti-static, conductive, and static-dissipative materials. ESd materials are classified by how quickly electricity moves through the material, with that speed referred to as the “resistance” of the material. Static-dissipative materials are considered to be the ideal range for ESd materials, allowing an electric change to flow to ground slowly and in a controlled manner.
Most important type is Static-dissipative materials, it allows electric charges to flow more slowly through the material for greater control. These materials are typically used to prevent discharge to and from human contact. The body is a high conductor of energy and can easily create a static spark. A plastic static-dissipative material causes that spark to flow slower, emitting a lower energy to the ground to prevent discharge and possible damage to any sensitive items. This makes them the ideal ESd material for objects that experience frequent human contact.
Another material that I learn about are stavax, teakwood, pomalux, ricocel and delrin. These are the custom material that are added into the solidwork.
For example,
Stavax ESR has the following properties:
good corrosion resistance
excellent polish ability
good wear resistance
good machinability
good stability in hardening
WEEK 8
Mr Been give a new task. The task is to understand how to make a proper drawing sheet. The drawing is in SLDDRW format. That means the drawing is from solidwork software. I learn how to make labels on the drawing according the format and standard in industrial application.
The drawing will be sent to other department so that they can produce the material with certain aspect and size. The drawing also will be sent to the production department so that they can refer how to correctly assemble the machine. The drawing guide task took a few days as there are a lot of drawing that I need to analysis.
Engineering drawings are used to fully and clearly define the requirements of an engineered item. An engineering drawing communicates what is required, wanted and needed to enable resources to be expended to turn an idea into reality. The drawing and any ancillary documents (ECO's) also protect the worker/manufacturers, if they have conveyed the requirements of the drawing/drawings correctly, from any liability if the end product is wrong. If the information is wrong liability would lie in the hands of the engineer. Manufacturing can be very costly with the majority of people unlikely taking responsibility of costly errors.
It is important to the engineering society and engineering community as it's precise and unambiguous nature rules can rule out liability errors. Engineering drawings also have many further advantages such as portability, storage, ability to amend with minimal costs and due to standardisation, it gives the ability to be interpreted by others across the globe.
WEEK 9
This week I continue with the drawing guide task. Next I got a chance to help ms fatimah to alter the drawing sheet. Several drawings are not following the specification needed. The next day, I got another drawing task. This time, I do it by myself. Every detail of the drawing I put in the drawing. But unfortunately, not all drawing needs to be so detail.
Some drawing just needs a simple label. This is because, a completed drawing is not supposedly to be so detail because it is so messy. According to mis fatimah, the big size part or very completed part will be handled by CNC machine. So, any hole or curve will be done by machine and we just need a simple drawing only. But if the part is simple parts, the manual process will be chosen. So, the person that operate the machine to be precise to produce the parts.
WEEK 10
this week is quite relaxing as not many task I got. So this week I use to collecting information and sorting it to ease me in making report. I also try to setting up report on E-portfolio.
as the last day of this week, Mr Foo give briefing for the next week task. We are going to the site to analyse the production line that our company produce. we will take time and find if there any problems arise. as this is the first big project involving production line.
WEEK 11
As discuss before with Mr Aizat, I follow up with his project. the project is a tester to detect whether the unit has leakage or not. the unit is a comb with dryer made by dyson. so the tester is used to test the dryer air flow. right now the project is undergoing.
the main body of the tester is arrived. next, the technician will assemble all the other parts. right now the part that already install are, the unit's holder, motor to supply air(blower), and the wiring is still ongoing.
i also start to do intern report.
WEEK 12
for the last week, we are given time to relax and continue finishing our report and also keep follow up the project.
