The UTM Green DNA meeting will be conducted for the first time at N24 on November 4, 2022. In this meeting, we learn about our roles based on the online interview we had conducted beforehand. We also break the ice with other members, learn about the club, and plan forthcoming club activities. I decided to join this group because I'm highly interested in learning how to protect the environment, find alternatives to chemicals that are more sustainable, and turn trash into useful products. I ended up getting the role of head of activity. I am incredibly honored to have been granted the duty of accepting this position.
So far on my journey with UTM Green DNA, I've learned how to develop into a true leader who can help my followers accomplish a given objective. We make every effort to make online meetings successful despite our inability to hold face-to-face sessions. I learn that understanding each member's issue and assisting them in finding a solution will enable you to walk the group's path without leaving anyone behind. In addition, I get to improve my communication abilities so that I can convey information correctly and pay close attention to other people's viewpoints. This ability is crucial while working in groups since it allows us to exchange knowledge and learn new things.
It is my aim that by joining this club, I will learn everything there is to know. I also want to strengthen my relationships with a variety of people so that I can more readily adjust to other types of personalities in the future.
On the 20th May 2023, my friends and I attended the Malaysian International Cultural Carnival (MICC) at Dewan Seri Kencana, Kolej Datin Seri Endon. The primary goal of this event is to showcase Malaysian tradition to our overseas students while also introducing their culture to us. We participated in a variety of events, including the international cultural exhibition, food trucks, special draws, and more.
I get to learn about other people's traditions and gain a better understanding of other cultures by taking part in this event, which helps me become more adaptable. Being able to view the world from the exhibition alone is incredibly fascinating. As we interact with people from all over the world throughout the event, I also get to work on improving my communication skills. Having effective communication abilities enable me to express myself better. Last but not least, I get to develop my abilities as a global citizen by learning to view the world from a different angle. I can better comprehend why people act the way they do when I am aware of their cultures.
I've always wanted to learn more about the wonders of global diversity, but I never really had the time to do it. As a result, I didn't really learn that much. But after going to this carnival, I know that I'll find some time in my hectic schedule to learn a little about other people's traditions or cultures.
The Annual Gas Engineering Student Society Dinner 2023 is held on 15 June 2023 at Dewan Banquet, UTM. This event is organized by Gas Engineering Student Society (GESS). I have been given the responsibility of securing sponsorship for the event as a committee member. In addition to being on the committee, I was given the duty of ushering and carrying the award tray. The main objective of this Annual Dinner is to introduce the new committee and to strengthen our bonds within course mates.
I learned a lot from being a committee member. Even though this is my first time approaching different companies for sponsorship, my seniors have been really supportive in helping me with the letter-writing process and in recommending which companies we should contact. Although performing the duties of a VIP usher and an award bearer may appear simple, they were difficult since we had to be constantly aware of our surroundings to ensure that the event went off without a hitch.
Communication skills are a graduate trait that is highlighted by taking part in this event. I continually need to be aware of which award to bring on stage because I'm the tray carrier. Consequently, it is crucial to communicate with the floor manager. Other than that, communicating with people from the company that we sought for sponsorship has helped me develop my communication skills. Second, this experience helps me develop my leadership and collaborative teaming abilities. The tense night we spend together discussing as we prepare for the event is what makes our wonderful evening possible.
