The EMF Fun Run is organized on 06 March 2020 at the Azman Hashim Stadium, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor. The program is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m. This program aims to create awareness on the need to save our nature especially endangered animals such as rhinoceros among students and society.
After performing Maghrib prayers, students and the public began to gather at the stadium. The program began with an opening speech and exercise. The participants seemed very eager to start the run. The program organizers interacted well with the runners. All instructions given can be clearly understood. Although the participants came from various backgrounds such as students and the public, these differences did not prevent them from communicating and greeting each other. For example, I sign up individually without any other friends. But, throughout the run, I didn’t feel any loneliness because the runners supported each other. Words of encouragement are constantly given as reinforcement. This not only strengthens the team spirit but our ability to communicate with other participants is also unlimited. We can chat like other friends even we just met in this competition.
The participants seem to be able to collaborate well in team. Those who are registered in team always running together and supporting members who have been exhausted. They don’t leave members to keep running forward because they have started the run together, let alone the end together as well. This is an example of good global citizen. Being ethical and empathetic also is the requirement needed to be a good global citizen and it is shown when none of the participants cheat throughout the run.
This was the first time I have registered in an event without my friend and to be honest, I was a little bit scared at that time because I had to run alone. However, the situation was not as I expected. I could easily greet other participants and communicate with them. I believe that, not all people are indifference unless you have tried to mingle with them. In fact, there were even outside participants who cheered for me throughout the run. They gave me words of encouragement to keep running. I want to use this ability to support my members or my colleagues at workplace in the future if they are having fatigue or want to give up their work. Besides, it is important to strategize your running pace and this was the moment I need to think carefully to make sure I was not burn out during running. For example, start with fast pace at the starting point and run in big steps. A few moments later, run in small steps to save energy to sprint at the finishing line. It is important to stay committed with running because once you try to stop, you will start to feel comfortable in taking break often. Thus, same goes when doing works, it is important to keep doing in slower pace as long as you don’t stop.
