POSITION / ROLE IN PROGRAMME
My position in this programme was as Deputy Director 1, which was really an honor to receive such an opportunity. Throughout the programme, I was in charge of a few units, including secretary, treasurer, sponsorship, registration, and TTK.
MINI REPORT
The objectives of this programme were to increase students' self-awareness about Malaysia and other countries’ issues, values, cultures, and languages. Second, to provide participants with further views on SDG 4, SDG 8, SDG 11, and SDG 15. Third, encourage students to engage in healthy debate among themselves.
On the first day of the programme, it started with a Cultural Sharing session presented by a few speakers from different states in Malaysia, such as Pulau Pinang, Sarawak, Johor, and Langkawi. Later on, there was a "Light Bulb" and quiz session in which participants could broaden their knowledge of the issues and cultures in Malaysia. On the second day, the programme also started with a cultural sharing session, but the speakers were from different countries around the world. The countries that were included are Bangladesh, Sudan, Yemen, and Indonesia. They were sharing information on history, cultures, current issues, and the best places to visit. Just like on the first day of the programme, it continued with a quiz, which was followed by international exposure and global issues sessions. Despite the programme being a two-day session, it ended smoothly. Lastly, this programme helped participants stay updated on current issues since it was conducted during the COVID-19 phase.
SELF-REFLECTION
After joining this programme, I have gained tonnes of knowledge in many aspects and greatly improved my soft skills in every way. Taking on such a significant responsibility needed a lot of courage on my part, so becoming a Deputy Director was not an easy task. I had enhanced my communication skills since it required me to interact with most of the committees in order to delegate the task more efficiently. I believe my leadership and teamwork skills are getting better day by day as I am required to lead some of the units, where I have to respect their ideas and have mutual trust.
Despite the fact that this was my first time serving on a committee for an online programme, I was still able to adjust to the new standard and collaborate well with the team until the program's end. Not to forget, I also have widened my understanding of other countries regarding their values, cultures, and global issues. This was such a remarkable experience that I was able to give the committee the finest version of myself besides all of the challenges that I have faced.
