SUMMARY
AWS Cloud Foundation is an online course, founded by Amazon.com Inc. I enrolled in this course since November 2021, and finally finished it in 23 January 2022. I gained a lot of experience and knowledge after completing the course, especially about the services that AWS provided. Whether through recorded video, knowledge check or even the laboratory, everything provided in the module is really helpful for those who wants to know about cloud computing and AWS. The laboratory sessions were really fun and interactive. After all of the exercises and lecture being done, I received two things. The first one is AWS Badge as you can see at the right side. Next, I also received an AWS Cloud Foundation Certificate as below.
MODULE DIFFICULTY
In my opinion, getting the badge is not hard because you have unlimited tries for knowledge check. This means that after you finished answer the questions, and get a mark below 80%, you are able to redo the knowledge check. Since it has no limit, the knowledge check is basically a freebie. But, I also think that the process of getting the badge is tedious. While it not particularly hard, you need to put a lot of times into listening to the lecture and doing the lab. The earlier module such as module 1 and 2 are the easiest one because they are simple. But climbing up to module 6, the lecture videos got longer and more lab session will be done per module. So I think module 6 is harder than other module, since it gets confusing and tiring pretty quick.
MOTIVATION
To be honest, my main motivation for completing this project is because getting AWS Badge and making a reflection about AWS is apart of our carry mark. AWS Badge and AWS Reflection contribute to around 14% of my carry mark, so it basically become my motivation to complete this project. Other than that, cloud computing is also in demand, especially in tech industry. So, I also want to take this opportunity to learn more about it through AWS Cloud Foundation.
MY SKILLS ON CLOUD COMPUTING
To be honest, I have zero knowledge about cloud computing November 2021. After attending the AWS Cloud Foundation, I am able to learn a lot about Cloud Computing. Getting the badge definitely has improved my knowledge and skills on Cloud Computing. I am able to differentiate between cloud computing deployment methods, types, different AWS services and others. Although I learned a lot about cloud computing in this AWS course, I still think there are a lot more to explore.
SHOULD STUDENTS LEARN CLOUD COMPUTING?
For every computer science student, YES. Absolutely. Learning about cloud computing and getting the AWS badge will benefits every computer science. Cloud Computing is a hot topic and a lot of recruiters are trying to find employees who are expert in this field. And the AWS Badge is the first step for you to be in cloud computing related jobs. Also, cloud computing jobs can pay big bucks. So, I will definitely recommend every computer science student to learn AWS Cloud Foundation.
But for other UTM students who do not study tech related course, it's not necessary to learn cloud computing. While it is totally fine and can be beneficial, it is not mandatory for general UTM students such as Psychology students or Chemistry student to learn about cloud computing.
SHOULD COMPANY SHIFT TO CLOUD COMPUTING?
Depending on the company itself. I do agree that most company should shift their service or product to Cloud Computing. But it is not necessary for every company to shift to Cloud Computing, it mainly depends on the service or product they provide, and whether the current world situation will benefits their company if they implement cloud computing. For example, right now for gaming company, cloud gaming cannot thrive because of unstable and slow internet speed. Not only that, 5G is not widely implemented yet. So, people need to wait in the future where 5G is widely implemented for fast internet speed.
In my opinion, cloud computing will benefits most company but not every company. Company need to consider who are their target client, what are the company's product, and how the cloud computing will benefits the company.
MY ADVICE
My advice for my friends who have not get the AWS badge yet is, go get them. If you think AWS Badge will improve your resume and knowledge, go for it. If you just want to learn it for fun and you want to know more about cloud computing, yes you should go get the AWS Badge. If you want to be a cloud computing architect, absolutely go for it. AWS Cloud Foundation will be really beneficial to you. Maybe you can start today? As a quote says, "Today is your opportunity to build the tomorrow you want".
IS THE COURSE WORTH IT?
The badge is worth 20 hours of sweats and hard works. It is an indication that I have completed 20 hours of lecture, laboratory sessions and knowledge checks. The badge and certificate will be really beneficial for my future, especially since I want to be a developer.
DIRECTION AFTER COMPLETING BADGE?
I will continue to live my normal student life and complete my projects and assignments. I will also focus for my final exams for semester 1. But if we are talking about long distance vision, then I would say that I want to learn more about cloud computing. Since Amazon is the biggest monopoly in cloud computing industry right now, I am pretty interested in AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner course. Maybe in the future I will take AWS Cloud Practitioner Examination, to improve my knowledge, job scope and salary.
OPINION ABOUT AWS BADGE
I think getting the AWS that is included in SECP1513 subject is really beneficial for me. Since it is apart of our course requirement, I am more motivated to learn about AWS this way. I also am really thankful that the university provided us with this opportunity .I gained a lot of experience and knowledge after completing the course, especially about the services that AWS provided. Everything provided in the module is really helpful for those who wants to know about cloud computing and AWS. This subject definitely taught me a lot about cloud computing.
This is the badge that I've received after finishing the course.
