Internship (WEEK 4)

Day 16 - 16/7/2018

Time : 0800-1800

Venue : NSF Engineering Sdn Bhd (HQ), Pasir Gudang

Activities :

  1. Change Thermo-hygrograph chart paper
  • A thermo-hygrograph is a chart recorder that measures and records both temperature and humidity. Similar devices that record only one parameter are a thermograph for temperature and hygrograph for humidity.
  • It is important to always check the temperature and humidity as calibration laboratory needs an ideal temperature and humidity for calibration process.

Day 17 - 17/7/2018

Time : 0800-1800

Venue : MPS Management & Services, Pasir Gudang

Activities :

  1. CIDB Health and Safety course (Preparation for Rapid site, Pengerang)

Day 18 - 18/7/2018

Time : 0800-1800

Venue : Calibration Laboratory, NSF Engineering Sdn Bhd (HQ), Pasir Gudang

Activities :

  1. Ball valve servicing (TITAN)
  • Leakage was found at the seat ring of the ball valve
  • It was due the scratched surface of the ball valve
  • Lapping process needs to be done to smooth the ball valve surface.
  • Lappingis a machining process in which two surfaces are rubbed together with an abrasive between them, by hand movement or using a machine. Lapping involves rubbing a brittle material such as glass against a surface such as iron or glass itself (also known as the "lap" or grinding tool) with an abrasive such as aluminum oxide between them. This produces microscopic fractures as the abrasive rolls about between the two surfaces and removes material from both.
  • After lapping process has done, reassemble the ball valve and continue for leak test.
  • From the leak test, there is still leakage but the leakage is acceptable which is Class V valves leak less than 5x10-12 cubic metres, per second, per bar of pressure differential, per millimetre of port diameter, of water when tested at the service pressure.

Day 19 - 19/7/2018

Time : 0800-1800

Venue : Calibration Laboratory, NSF Engineering Sdn Bhd (HQ), Pasir Gudang.

Activities :

  1. Calibration of pressure gauge from Eftech International
  • Using hydraulic dead weight tester as reference standard
  • Exercise gauge slowly, 3 times from minimum to maximum and minimum of the scale.
  • For gauges with a pointer stop, the accuracy class will cover 10% to 100% of the range. For gauges with a free zero, the accuracy class will cover 0% to 100% of the range and zero shall be used as an accuracy check point.
  • The test method maybe either by comparing selected indication with the pressure to be applied at these points or by comparing selected pressure with resultant indications of the unit under test(UUT). The test shall be made with increasing and decreasing pressure.
  • Test with minimum of 5 points of evenly distributed over the entire scale.

Day 20 - 20/7/2018

Time : 0800-1800

Venue : Calibration Laboratory, NSF Engineering Sdn Bhd (HQ), Pasir Gudang.

Activities :

  1. Calibration of insulation tester (KYORITSU)
  • I learnt from Mr Fauzan on how to calibrate insulation tester and digital multimeter.
  • Procedures:
  1. Ensure the MS and the UUT is "ON" and has warmed up.
  2. Set the …V/ ….MΩ or …. MΩ Function on the UUT.
  3. Connect the appropriate MS to generate the Resistance (MΩ) Output signal to the respected input terminals of the UUT.
  4. For each step, in the respective UUT Calibration Data Sheet, select and set the MS for the specified Resistance (MΩ) Output Setting. Record and verify that the UUT display is within the limits (if the limits are available) shown for each readings OR just record the reading into the data sheet (If the limits are not available).
