NALI EXHIBITION

Executive summary

This report is based on the New Academia Learning Innovation (NALI) 2018 that took place on 25th and 26th September 2018 in Dewan Sultan Iskandar UTM. NALI is an exhibition innovative and learning practices. We have visited 4 booths among 86 booths.  From booth Application development of augmented reality in geometry topic based on multimedia learning cognitive theory”, we know that the application is created to let students learn while visualizing that how geometry works and it’s easier to identify different type of shapes, moreover, this application can help us to find the sizes and angles of any shape using Augmented Reality. Next, ----Warm Up Your Brain booth has created the application that especially for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). Lastly, YouTube is the way for disabled students to learn hair styling in the booth 17. Trend in NALI is education and playing.------ Besides, we can see another trend is the digital learning is transform from the conventional learning.----------- Reflection from the NALI is that students can learn more useful information since NALI is a platform that shared a lot of innovative things in teaching and learning methods.

INTRODUCTION

New Academia Learning Innovation (NALI) 2018 was organized by UTM Academic Leadership that collaborates with School of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities UTM and ASIA Technological University Network. It was held on 25th and 26th September 2018 at Dewan Sultan Iskandar UTM. NALI is basically a event of innovative teaching and education. This event helps everyone to observe NALI research brands in teaching and education through exhibition and competitions. There were about 86 booths that opened for the two days.

CONTENTS OF OUR BOOTHS

There were 4 booths among 86 which were visited by our group members:

Booth 30

APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT OF AUGMENT REALITY IN GEOMETRY TOPIC BASED ON MULTIMEDIA LEARNING COGNITIVE THEORY

Booth 40

VOLLEYBALL WORLD: MOBILE APPLICATION TO LEARN VOLLEYBALL

Application development of augmented reality in geometry topic based on multimedia learning cognitive theory:

Learning environment quickly revolutionized with the development of industrial revolution 4.0. Augmented Reality is one of the newest and finest technology in educational field, AR technology able to help a user to interact with both virtual and real world, in real time. The learning of geometry topics needs someone to have good virtualization skill that’s why the company invented the innovation by using AR technology called GeoAR can order to give new dimension of geometry shapes learning. The main goal of this application is the latest AR tracker which is combination of multiple tracker. Exploring shows positive results as the user felt comfortable by using this application.

How this app can help you to study and learn about the geometry:

  • Identifying shapes of polygon in geometry topics.
  • Shows that AR visual dynamic changes of polygon in geometry topics.
  • Shows calculation of area and perimeter for dynamic changes of polygon in geometry topics.
  • Teaching and learning videos for geometry topics.

Educational reformation has proceeded quicker with the twenty-first century learning in improve learning skills among the students. The acronym STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) has been adopted by many programs as an important focus to improve the learning methods around the world. Self-learning is a main factor for the students to create more various decisions which is associated with strategy to explore and solve the mathematics problems in all kind of situation. Based on studies on the research shows that the Malaysian students’ levels for content domain scores still far from satisfactory. The previous research showed these students do not know on how to solve a problem because of the imaginary virtualization. So, this application has a solution for the problem which is an overview of basic aspects of augmented reality AR and the main concepts of this technology, In education, this Augmented Reality can be used to improve the education quality. Augmented reality has been turned into a field with unlimited possibilities. It has the larger solutions for improving educational systems across the world. In the last 2 to 3 years, augmented reality (AR) has grown into a technology that is set to revolutionize numerous sectors, most importantly education. In the current world everyone has access to mobile phone so it’s easier for everyone to learn something new and AR is a technology which can be implemented across many fields. As the example of application shown above.

TRENDS IN NALI

The trend in NALI were mostly related to educational and teaching stuff. This trend was the most common thing we identified among all of the booths. Besides, the trend is the digital learning is now converted from the conventional learning in the previous. For example, the booth 30 is using the way to learn geometry using Augmented Reality. By scanning some certain points on the images, we can easily identify the shape type and its dimensions. Each booth in the NALI had something unique in it. Moreover, young generation who is much more attracted towards digital devices can easily get attracted towards the application which were demonstrated in the NALI carnival to learn many things just by using mobile phones.

REFLECTIONS

NALI’2018 was a very captivating and interesting exhibition because it displayed a lot of useful insights for many people. This event really helps people to see NALI experimentation and innovation brands in education and acquiring through exhibition and competition because it came up with a very good example by the presenter from each booth. It also had been the platform that gave a lot of research and innovation outcomes in teaching and learning methods because there were about 86 booths provided in this exhibition. In addition, this exhibition also promotes STEM awareness among educators in practicing NALI. NALI’2018 positively gave people a lot of information and thoughts on how to be more productive in doing something. For example, it taught us that in learning, we do not always use the books. Sometimes, by playing a game also can give us the information. We will not feel bored easily if we use the playing game method while learning. By being more creative in teaching and learning, many people will feel more excited to learn. It is because not everyone in this world got the same capability to learn, so in order to teach and attract those special people to learn, the educators need to use the right method of teaching. As we can see that in NALI talk series and seminars, all of it provide ways for those educators to improve their ability and capability in running through teaching and learning in the 21st Century. It is evident that NALI’2018 was definitely a very good lead to expose all the teaching and learning modes to people.
