VISION

UTM will become the “University of Digital that leads the delivery of services in terms of academic”

Objectives

CICT objectives are to provide ICT infrastructure and facilities in UTM, become the reference centre in ICT Services, exlore the new technologies in ICT and to make sure that ICT has its own role on the University activies

CICT

CICT is the center for information and technology in UTM and it works as the main sources for IT throughout the university. CICT is a support units that provide knowledge to every staffs and students in UTM about IT services especially in ICT infrastructure and system development. CICT also has responsibility to all of the staffs, lecturers and students to ensure that they have the access to lecture materials, learning and researches by developing new technologies, maintaining the current technology and keeping the services up to date and provide digital access throughout the campus.

There are lot of facilities and services provided by CICT.In the CICT building, there is Student ICT Services Centre which students can access it using computer which a windows platform, Mac OS, and also Linux platform. In addition, students can come and have a discussion here since they provide 3 discussion area. There are also additional services such as printing, laminating, scanning and CD burning . Within the computers, a lot of software student could find in it such as Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, iWork, iLife and others since students can record film in the lighting and chroma key studio, and student also can interact with Mixer and Whisper Room.

CICT also try their very best to provide Wi-Fi to entire UTM. On June 2018, they have started to install around 200 access point to provide free wifi for students and staff. They have installed more and more access point all around UTM and on august 2018, around 1400 access point have been installed all over UTM. From that moment every single person in UTM that have the user id and the password which is called Academic Computing ID(ACID), can access the internet everywhere they go as long as they are in UTM. The internet speed is around 1 GB and every single day around 97% of that amount have been used by UTM residence so the internet speed is slow. CICT have proposed the UTM management to increase the speed and bandwidth but it will take more cost.

CICT also provide four ICT Instructional Services that is e-Learning, MyLine, e-PPP, and e-portfolio. The first one is e-Learning. E-Learning is an educational website for lecturer and students that make the learning process between them become easier. In the e-Learning, lecturer can share any information regarding their respective subjects for their students and students can access the e-Learning to access the information. The second one is MyLine and MyLine is actually for online resource for learning in english. It is a self-access website that have been developed by CICT to enhance tertiary level students their english communication skills. It is an online website that can be access anytime so it is really good for students that have crowded formal learning scheduled.

Next ICT Instructional Services that have been provided by CICT is e-PPP. So what is e-PPP? E-PPP is actually a website that allow to students to comment about their lecturer’s teaching performance. The main reason why this website was established is to increase the effectiveness of the lecturer’s teaching skills. Last but not least, the website is called e-Portfolio. So e-Portfolio is basically for students to post their work or any other documents on the website.

Other than that, CICT provides an instructional services called e-Portfolio, an online compilation of documents that can be used by students to reflect the process of their own learning throughout their studies in UTM and report about the progress of the students achievement on knowledge, technical and generic skills. E-Portfolio also can be used for the students to plan about their futures which includes their academic and career development.
