Entry 1
Overview:
On the second week, I have attended to Final Year Project 1 briefing held at P19 hall regarding information, guidelines, marking and supervision on FYP project's title. Mr. Nik Din Muhamad being incharge to endorse and guide me for FYP 1 workflow. He has proposed a title of LED Driver and I have to do a research on the circuit topology and working principle.
Theory:
LED Driver is similar to ballast for fluorescent lamps or transformer for low voltage bulbs to provide LED electricity to function and perform at best. Driver purposes is to rectify higher voltage (AC current) to low voltage (DC current) and protect voltage or current fluctuation. Fluctuations may lead to LED degradation due to LED output is directly proportional to its current supply. There are two main types of LED driver which is constant-current and constant voltage.
Problem Statement:
LED output is directly proportional to the current supply to it. Thus, it should provide regulated constant-current for power supply using DC-DC converter. It should include energy saving features.
Proposed Solution:
Design a constant current LED driver to enhance the output efficiency and lighting performance. Next, propose a dimming capability to improve energy saving by using PWM or magnitude dimming.
Objectives:
- To improve power supply to the LED output
- To design and implement LED driver using boost or buck-boost converter
- To construct a dimming capability for energy saving efficiency
