L50,UTM Skudai - FKE invited a speaker from Port Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) to give an industrial Talk. The speaker was Ir. Juraimi Masood. He is one of Head of Development Department responsible for the planning, construction, test and deliver of the various packages within the Port development plan.He developed the port from white paper and has gone trough various management transformation with different management styles and different CEOs and also a specialist in Electrical System Concept and Design and have possession of 132kV Competency Certificate from the Energy Commission and currently handling the 132kV system within the port. He also has an experienced working in Sime Darby.
During the early stage of the talk, He describe what is PTP and problems faced by them. He said that Most of manufacturers/industries need to deal with heavy engineering at PTP and safety is very crucial. He worked with the project involved design, construction, project planning, quality, project cost and safety.
He also give a speech about employability since he had an experienced in hiring new employee. He mentioned that, most of fresh graduate don't have in-depth technical competence in a specific engineering discipline.Thus, he give advices to fresh graduate about need to prepare themselves well before entering working experience. He shared about the requirements needed by fresh graduate. Engineer should be able to make a wise decision because everything relies on them. He said working in group is compulsory for an engineers, so the engineer should have good teamwork and each of them need to cooperate or communicate effectively. And of course, an engineer should have the ability to acquire apply knowledge of engineering fundamentals. They also should be able to lead and manage their team. Project planning also important for an engineer.
Other than that, he also stressed out 6 component about client scope that needed by engineer which are,Development of the master plan,Determining End user requirement ,Engaging communities and authorities, Engaging consultants, Engaging contractors/supplier and Timely, high quality and safe delivery. Last but not list, he mentioned about the best practice that as an electrical engineer need to apply in life duirng his last speech. The practices includes Calculating, Estimating, Designing and CostInitiative skills.
