Reporting
On March 1 until March 7 2020, Sukan Sekolah Komputeran 2020 (SUSKOM'20) was organized by the Persatuan Mahasiswa Sains Komputer (PERSAKA). PERSAKA has advertised this program a few months before the day it was held. I have noticed the posters of this program in my WhatsApp group. The objective of this program is to encourage students from computer schools to be directly involved in sports activities. Apart from that, it also helps students to reduce stress and rejuvenate their body. This program is held in the UTM area only due to cost savings by the organizer. There are various sports activities competed and it is divided into two, namely physical sports and e-sports. Among the physical sports that been carried out are volleyball, badminton, futsal, netball, ‘sukaneka’, fun run, tug of war and treasure hunt. For the e-sports, the games that has been provided to compete are Mobile Legends, FIFA20, PUBG Mobile, Dota 2, and Call Of Duty (COD) Mobile. For every sports, there will be a fee and luckily it was affordable. I was interested in participating in some of the contested sports events. Last year, during Sukan Sekolah Komputeran 2019 (SUSKOM'19), I participated in the volleyball event and my team managed to get first place in the volleyball event. So I have planned to compete again in volleyball and try to get first place again for this year. In addition, I also interested in joining the e-sports and I am looking forward to join PUBG Mobile and FIFA20 since I have been playing this games as my hobby and during leisure time. I think perhaps it is time for me to bring out my skills and use it for good.
Reasoning
In my opinion, the most significant aspect in this program is communication skills. 2 out of 3 sports that I entered were played as a team. It is important to have good connection and understanding between teammates in order to execute the plan successfully. The meaning of good communication skills is that there must be good deliver of messages between teammates. If one of the teammate is giving the opinion, we should consider and discuss as a team without put aside on what the other said. From that, every member will be satisfied and feel happy to play. As a student, communication skills is important in every way such as deliver presentation and communication with lecturers and group mates. By joining this activity, individual communication skills can be improve and it can be apply anywhere an in any situation.
Responding
Before submitting the application forms, I need to find some teammates since the volleyball and PUBG Mobile will be played and compete as a team. So I decide to gather the old members of my volleyball team and all of them are from my course which is Data Engineering. The team was successfully formed and named as team SCSPink which we combine our course code and our colour theme as one name. For PUBG Mobile, I already have my own clan which named La Casa De Podel (LCDP) and I picked 3 members from my clan to join my team. Our in-game names are inspired by city names in the world. Last year, I also entered PUBG Mobile competition in SUSKOM’19 but we failed to get any places. I used that defeat as my motivation since now I have got a little experience in e-sports tournament. For this time, I believed that my teammates and I can grab first place in all sport competitions since we got some experiences from previous competitions. So I decide to join 3 activities which are volleyball, PUBG Mobile and FIFA20. After submitting the application forms, I planned to have some training with my friends at the evening for volleyball and at night for PUBG Mobile. For volleyball, we trained on our gameplay consistency and strengthen our basic technique. We spent almost 3 hours for volley training everyday in order to form some bond and chemistry between teammates. We practiced hard because we wanted to get number one again for this year. For PUBG Mobile, we trained at night for one hour. We needed to recognize all the maps pattern and obstacles while calculating the risk and chances to get “Winner - Winner Chicken Dinner”. “Winner - Winner Chicken Dinner” is phrase for the team who get number one place in PUBG Mobile. Even though we trained hard, we succeed in managing our time well by prioritize the work-related things first. For FIFA20, I trained myself when I have extra time since my daily schedule was packed with studies and other training.
When the SUSKOM’20 week started, I felt very nervous and excited at the same time. From the activity schedule, FIFA20 will be held first and later on to PUBG Mobile and volleyball. I realize that all the physical sports will be held on the weekend since there will be no class on that day. For FIFA’20, in the grouping stage I manage to win 2 times by beat my opponents 5-0 and 3-0. I also lost to another opponent 1-3 in group stage. With two winnings, I manage to go to quarter final and met the champion from another group. Unfortunately, I lost 1-2 against him. It was a fair and square game and I congratulate him before leaving the event. Next event was PUBG Mobile. My teammates and I gathered in one room to ease us when communicating to each other. We have been told that we will played only three rounds and the marks will be collected from placement in each game and total kill per game. On first game, we played on Erangel map and luckily we get our first win in this map. We played with patient and communicate as mutual as we can so that we will be the last team standing. For the second game, the match will be held at Sanhok map. We tried to keep up our momentum so that we will do well in the next game. Surprisingly, we nailed it again when we also won the second match. For the last match which it will be at Vikendi map, we manage to get third places which ending up made our group as the highest points received. The champion for PUBG Mobile this year was LCDP team. On the weekend, we played for the volleyball event. We arrived early at the court and do some warm-up since our group will be playing in the first match. We lost in the first match by a little margin but that does not demotivate us at all. We kept the spirit and did better for the next game. We won our second game with style. For the third game, unfortunately we lost in that match but surprisingly at the end, we managed to get third places because the marks collected. At night, the closing ceremony is being held. I have been up on stage two times that night because I achieved first place in PUBG Mobile and third place in volleyball. Before I went back to my room, I having some photos with my teammates and course mates as memories.
Relating
From this experience, I got a lot of things that I learned. For me, every moment in this program is priceless starting from submitting the application forms until the closing ceremony. I realize that in order to achieve our target, we have to struggle and hustle for it. This reminds me of when we trained everyday and keep motivating each other that we will strive this competition. This similar to work-group in classes when we keep supporting each other and studied together to achieve flying colors. As a participant, I manage to follow the rules and regulations for this program in order to make this program run smoothly. It reminds me of when I was organizing a program during my secondary school. From my past experience, participants and organizers must have mutual understanding so that both side can do their things properly. As preparation for this program, I have skills and knowledge for every sport I entered but it sill not sufficient. In order to lift myself up, I need to train hard and being more focus on every circumstance and condition towards the game. This can be relate to when I was in my first year at university where I found programming as a hard course. I realize that it takes effort to achieve the good grade. I started to created some efforts by meeting lecturer if I have any inquiries, joining group study with my friends and do some self-coding training during my free time. As a result, I manage to get B+ in programming.
Reconstructing
In a nutshell, I realize that there will be many obstacles in my life in the future. From this program, there are some good elements that will help myself to face the future. As a next step, I will participate in more tournaments and competitions regarding sports and other extracurricular activity in order to sharpen my soft skills. I will train more hard and do my best in any things that I do. I hope that with my passion and effort, I can inspire people around me to keep chin-up and never give up.
