INTRODUCTION

On 9^th October 2019, we were introduced about Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which is also known as Global Goals. It is a goal that was adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure all people to enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. There are 17 goals under SDG in order to balance the social, economic and environmental sustainability. For our final project we were asked to choose an SDG and find a solution that can help to solve it within that area. In a group of 3, we agreed to do goal number 2 which is zero hunger. Our chosen area is Kuala Lumpur (KL).

     Referring to Department of Statistics Malaysia 2018, it is shown that Malaysia has succeeded in reducing poverty from 5.5% (2000) to 0.4% (2018). Though poverty has been reduced significantly, there are still issues that require urgent attention. Studies from The Global Nutrition Report 2018 proves that Malaysia placed 41 among 141 countries that consists burdens of malnutrition which are obesity, stunting and anaemia. Collected data from UNICEF shows that in 2018, across KL, about 2142 children, 23% children aged four are stunted, 22% underweight and 32% wasting or thinner than their average.

     Homeless people are one of the crucial factors that lead to hunger in Malaysia. The most recent figures come from a study that is conducted by KL City Council (DBKL). In 2016, estimated population in KL is 1.79 million people and there exist about 1500 to 2000 homeless people in KL. Peoples’ perception of homelessness are usually negative because certain are assumed to be drug addict, alcohol, gambling and many more. Statistics below shows the reason of homelessness.

     It clearly shows that there is very small percentage that hold the drug issue in homelessness. The highest is unemployment and next is low income and others. When they are unemployed and gain low income, this will lead to increment of hunger because most of them could not afford to eat leisurely as normal people does. Some of them even skip eating as they have no money to buy for themselves.

      The problem that rises among humanities is that their mindset towards homelessness and because of that, mostly refuse to lend a hand. Little do they know that helping them especially in hunger issue could actually help them to survive better. By doing so, they could work harder, find extra income and can even bought themselves shelter someday. These people actually need support from us mentally and physically. All of the explanation above explained why we choose zero hunger as our project. Our main objective is to reduce hunger among homeless people.

SOLUTION

Zero Hunger is on the rise again, affecting the Kuala Lumpur area. We made a research and we found that many of people are affecting by zero hunger, they do not have enough money to buy food to survive and this problem can affect their health and this may cause them to suffer from malnutrition. So, we had found the best possible solution to reduce zero hunger as students, which is we want to do the charity for them. But it is difficult for us as a student to gain money to make a charity so, what are we can do is firstly we do the fund raising. Therefore, the product from the fund raising we will give to the organization that can help us to proceed this charity for zero hunger.

     Fundraising event is one of the most impactful solution since it can allow other citizens to join it. It is on a citizen sector mode so, in the future the statistics of zero hunger will reduce because it has been help by them. This project is mostly impactful on youth as it can to raise awareness on zero hunger, nowadays many company and organization had raised funds for zero hunger but the difference is they already have sponsors and their financial also in a good condition. Although ideally this project would be better to get the entire world to place in very good ways. In the meantime this will give the opportunity for citizens to lend a helping hand to zero hunger people, the impact of donation cash and food will really help them in their life.

     As state above, we think that fund raising and make a charity for them is one of the best ways to help them. We do the fund raising by selling our preloved items for example like our clothes, scarves and other belonging as the first step for gain money. We already market our product on social media like Facebook and Instagram. We also make a poster about our fund raising to help reducing zero hunger.  The purpose of that poster is we want everyone know about our fundraising project and we also have been make a google form for those people who are willing to give their preloved to be sell. This also one of the ways to help us gain fund for people who need it.

     We already created an Instagram account to sell our preloved items, we also wrote the description about our purpose for doing such activities. So, people will see it what are our aim, and it also make them want to lend a helping hand by buying our preloved items. This project surely will take a very long time to collect enough money to be donated to help the people in need, but what are we learnt from this is we must do something with sincere and with full of heart and patience. Raising funds through online platforms is one of the easiest and quickest ways to raise money nowadays, everyone can proceed by starting their own online fundraising social media and this will not only help to create a helpful community as it also can reach out to the global level because it is very hard for students to make a fund raising for disabled people. It is an ideal platform to gain a larger number of donors who may be willing to provide financial to help disabled people or more specifically, the people who experiencing zero hunger.
