Position in the event

I am the committee of Activity Unit of Compfair 2023. I need to plan the activity happened during the event. For example, I conducted the Fast Finger competition and work with other activity unit members. Not to forget, I am also in charge of handling one of the checkpoints for the Treasure Hunt activity during Compfair 2023.

Self-Reflection

1) Impact of the activities on the development of the students' Graduate Attributes

Compfair 2023 positively impacted students' Graduate Attributes, including motivating and give awareness about potential job scopes about their domain, critical thinking and problem-solving, collaboration and communication, leadership and initiative. The activities increased students' knowledge, developed their problem-solving skills, improved collaboration and communication abilities, and empowered them to take leadership roles.

2) Self-strength/advantage towards the activities

Individuals with a passion for IT, knowledge/expertise in IT areas, strong communication and leadership skills, and creativity/innovation have advantages in participating this activities. These strengths enable them to contribute effectively, share insights, collaborate, and provide fresh perspectives.

3) Challenges and how to overcome:

Challenges in participating in the activities include time constraints, limited resources and ensuring ongoing engagement. To overcome these challenges, organizers can provide pre-event or past-event resources  or reports for the committee so that the mistakes happened during the past event are not happening during the next execution of this event. Plus, seek partnerships/sponsorships for resources and establish student-led initiatives for continued engagement.  

Mini Report

1. Justification in joining the activities

  • CompFair 2023 is one of the largest annual IT events held with a specialty of academic and IT knowledge by students of the Faculty of Computing. It was held physically after 2 years held online. The purpose of this event is to motivate and give awareness about potential job scopes for each course to students. Not to forget, it also aim to polish students' technical skills and generic skills through activity conduct and strengthen the collaboration between existing industry partners.

2. The Graduate Attributes that are focused on 

  • Compfair 2023 event was designed to align with several key graduate attributes, emphasizing the holistic development of students. Some of the attributes that were focused on during the event include: 

a) Motivate and give awareness about potential job scopes for each course to students. This event held a talk about various topics regarding variety potential job scopes. For instance, this event held talk about "Data Science Webinar", "Bioinformatic Webinar", "Cybersecurity Webinar", "Resume Workshop" and many others by inviting domain experts about the talks. 

b) Polish students' technical skills and generic skills. The activities aimed to enhance students' technical skills and generic skills. For instance, the treasure hunting activity held during the event present the students with interesting checkpoints where it challenges the students to complete the puzzle given to them while also strengthening the teamwork among team members.

3. Content of the activities

Compfair 2023 event featured a diverse range of activities and initiatives aimed at promoting the awareness of potential job scopes.

a) Guest Speakers and Workshops: Renowned domain experts were invited to deliver keynote speeches, conduct workshops, and share their knowledge and experiences. These sessions covered topics such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence,bioinformatics, Adobe and many more. Not to forget, Career Fair were also conducted during the event.

b) Treasure Hunt where the participants are required to collect the hint across every booth and find the hidden treasure.

c) Fast Finger competition where participants are challenged to write a set of text and record the fastest typing speed.

d) Coding Detector competition where participants are given a code with errors and they are required to solve the error to make the program works as intended.
