INTRODUCTION

 On 24^th November 2018, an industrial visits has been made at OneMaker Medini, Mall of medini. The objective of this visits is to introduce the effectiveness of design thinking in solving problem to the UTM Software Engineering first year students. Design thinking is a technique that was used in order for us to solve a problem as well as possible. There were five stages that were being emphasized when using design thinking to solve a problem which is empathy, define, ideate, prototype and test. This five stages is really important and need to give full attention when we need to solve a problem. It give a rough idea on how we must do before start a project, when handle the project and after finished the project. Because of this, UTM Technology and Information System lecturer had make an industrial visits for their students in order to exposed design thinking in their  students life.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION

In order to solve the problem that always occurs at the universities’ research lab our group has apply the design thinking methodology in solving the problem. There are some problem that we identify are the common problem that always occur at research lab. Usually when we talk about research lab, sometime maybe we imagine that it was fulfilled with and high-tech technology, but unfortunately from our point of view UTM research lab is still lack of infrastructure to support their student project. As university student we already aware that research lab is a place that student can develop or expand their own potential to be use when graduate later. But with the condition of is not too proper, student will find it really hard for them to enhance their skill and potential. So, in order to solve this problem we think that UTM needs to get a support from an expert in someone or something that was really expert in their respective fields. What I mean by getting support from expert is we need to find a lecturer that can contribute for the UTM students when they want to use research lab. Even though the lab is still not in good condition they still can cover it by getting a proper teach from expertise.

Other than that, sometime other student find it was really hard for them to get a good teaching from expert lecturer because of the place of the research lab is far away from their residential area. This has made some student always miss a few important knowledge from their lecturer because they may be late for their class or they does not have a proper transportation to go to the research lab. For this problem we think that it is better if we can make an online learning in our university. By doing an online learning we can save lot of cost to accommodate the student bus and other expense. From this students also can save a lot of their time from find a hard ways to go to the research lab.

Lastly, the problem that we manage to identify is that student easily get boring with their lecturer’s teaching. This problem always occur because the lecturer lack of humor sense or the student does not like the subject that was being teaching to them. Because student easily get bored with the learning they tends to skip the class and usually they just wasting their time by skipping the class. And for the consequence, if they does not have enough attendance for certain class student always get suspended from taking their final examination. This will be bad for their future. So, to solve this problem the lecturer needs to play their role as good as possible by using current technology to make the learning be more fun and enjoyable. Lecturer can make a mini competition among their student by to know who is better among them. This mini competition can be done by using current mobile apps called kahoot.id or Quizizz apps. This apps can helps the lecturer to make some question for their students and they can total up their marks in an interactive ways.

They are many other problem that always occurs at research lab, but the problem will not be solve if we did nothing to solve it. Along with the evolution in technology there can have a thousand ways to solve a problem that may occur in future. So we must always think in a creative ways on how to use current technology to adept with our problem.

DESIGN THINKING ASSESSMENT POINT

For the assessment point, we make it at the end of project demonstration. It is important to make the assessment at the end of demonstration because by doing this we can know what the problem can occur or what improvement can we do for the project. Other than that, we can make sure that our team always give the best effort in order to finish the project because we need to get a good assessment for the project and we will make sure that when we demonstration it in the best performance it can get.

REFLECTION

After was introduced with the design thinking we know that we can enhance our skill more and make a proper project in the future. With a good skill and potential in ourself we can further it for the future use. As example, we can make our chance to be hire for a job in future high because we have a knowledge, experience and attitude that almost all company need for their employee now.

 It make us think that with a proper technique, we also can make better project or solve current problem. By follow this technique less effort need to do for us to finish the project in good quality. Design thinking also give us a concrete manual to handle a problem that we may be faced in our future. It make us be more prepare and confident in facing our own problem or other problem that may came up in our life.

Even by gaining the knowledge about design thinking from the expert but if we still cannot tolerate or cooperate with our own team members it still also be can be a useless way in solving problem. From this industrial visit we know that our group is still lack of cooperation, tolerate and communication between ourself. So in order to, counter our own problem we need to take an initiative to improve our teamwork so we can make other job in a better way. It also can make us do our task within the allocated time. This skill is really important for us if we want to venture into an industry job when graduate from university later.
