  4. MyBiorobotics KIT

Introduction

On 25 and 26 September 2018 we were given assignment to attend and get information on NALI Exhibition at Dewan Sultan Iskandar. There were more than 90 booths stood at the event.

NALI 2018 was brought by UTM Academic Leadership in collaboration with School of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities UTM and Asia Technological University Network. The objectives of the exhibition are:

  • To recognize NALI research and innovation products in teaching and learning through exhibition and competition
  • To be the platform for sharing of research and innovation products in teaching and learning
  • To improve educators competency in practicing teaching and learning in the 21st Century through NALI talk series and workshops,
  • To improve STEM awareness among educators in practicing NALI

This report is written in order to complete Technology and Information System assignment given by Dr Nor Azizah Sa’adon.

Details of Work Plan

Our team went to the event on 26th of September after attending SCSR class by bus. Unfortunately one of our member couldn’t attend the event. There were not so many people on the event. Even some of the booth were empty during our visit. There were only brochure and models of their project. First we visited booth number 8. After that we visited booth number 63. Then we wandered around before visiting booth 58. Lastly, we visited booth 95 and after that we left the event.

Detailed Description

Using Toy Bricks as an Innovative Teaching Technique in Operations Management

  • Introduction

Using Toy Bricks as an Innovative Teaching Technique in Operations Management is the first booth that we visited. The course (Operation Management) is usually delivered through many ways including lectures, discussions, videos, and case studies. The toy bricks simulation game was introduced and implemented in class to simulate production scenario in real life. A survey has been conducted to get feedback on the effectiveness of the toy bricks simulation game by investigating student’s perspectives on it. Results from the survey show that majority of the students agreed that this technique increases their interest and understanding of the subject. It is regarded as a valuable tool in learning Operations Management and should be incorporated in future business and curriculum.

  • Objectives
  1. Improve students’ understanding on Operations Management topics
  2. Introduce scenario based learning by incorporating toy bricks in a production scenario
  3. Emphasize the “reflection-on-action”, and “reflection-in-action” among students.
  4. Enhance students; learning via team-working and applying operations management theories (MRP)
  • Benefits
  1. Better integration of operation
  2. Skills transfered :
    • Procurement and material movement in warehouse
    • Produce MRP report Quality Check
    • Product Bill
    • Inventory Management Product Tree.
    • Teamworking
    • Decision Making
  • Commercialization Potential
  1. High potenrial
  2. Ip is  progress
  3. Highly marketed to public and private universities.

Reflection

Our group didn’t expect much when we were given the assignment. We thought we were just going to an event, see some projects, get some information, and complete the assignment. But we were wrong. We have learned so much from the exhibition. We met a lot of creative and innovative people. They want to create things that will help others.

There were more than 90 projects shown in the exhibition. The booths were very organized and diverse, and the presentations were amazing. Even though some of the booths were left with noone to ask, they provided brochures that contain enough information. We actually visited more booth than those we were assigned to, and they really opened up our minds. The most fascinating one for us is the project MyBioRobotics KIT, a project made by a biology teacher just to help teachers explain things. It is amazing to see how passionate someone is with their job and how they are willing to sacrifice time and energy just to help others.
