On Sunday, 18th of November, a Senior Staff Researcher from MIMOS Berhad, Ir. Dr. Hafizal Mohamad @ Din held an industrial talk about IoT and come up with the title “ Internet of Things: Technology and Application”.
Hafizal Mohamad is a Senior Staff Researcher in the Corporate Technology Division of MIMOS.
The talk is held on P03-220, School of Electrical Engineering, UTM. It mainly talk about IoT applications and deployment examples will also be discussed.
The Purpose of The Industrial Talk
The main aim of this industrial talk is to provide information and give exposure to students about IoT applications and deployment examples of IoT, why?
Because nowadays, Internet of Things (IoT) has gained a lot of interest from not just technology view but also business point of view, it is aimed at enabling the interconnection and integration of the physical world and cyber space, it also represents the future networking and leads the new wave of the IT Industry revolution.
Talk
The first talk about IoT generally, then followed by talking IoT Sensors,
A sensor measures the physical quantity of light rays and convert it into electrical signal.The speaker continue by talking connectivity (inputs are digitised and placed onto networks), and the process of IoT by combining networked inputs into biderectional system that integrates data, people, process and system for better decision making. Then the speaker continute by talking about the interactions between these entities are creating new types of smart application and services, its example are smart thermostats, connected cars, activity trackers, smart outlets and parking sensors. Then the speakrer talks about Layer Architecture, which consist of application layer, platform layer, network layer, sensor and actuator layer, then after that he talks about the economic impact IoT will make in 2025, which is considerably high. Then, the talk continue by discussing the key technologies for the 4th industrial resolution as shown in (Figure 1.3). Then the speaker talkk about Supporting technologies, IoT device, IoT Getawat, Network, Cloud Analytics and Ecommerce, but the most interesting one is the Royal Bird’s Nest. The IoT implementaion making it discoverable and monitored about their daily life. So, by summary it talks about IoT Technology and Implementation.
The strengths about this talk is that the speaker works at the company and knows about the topic very well, and he have the ability to deliver the information really well, the weakness is that there are little media in the slide for example a video about the bird’s nest.On this talk we learn about the technology IoT have and it’s implementation, and because of it’s impact on the economy it makes have a great insight and motivation to learn more about Internet of Things.
