  • Global Online Workforce (GLOW) impact to Malaysia

Global Online Workforce (GLOW) are giving a lot of advantages to Malaysia economy, there are reasons why GLOW implemented in Malaysia :

The first one is technological revolution, technological revolution are a set of broader megatrends which will disrupt the way people work and live. These include urbanisation and demographic shifts such as an increasingly ageing population, an expanding pool of untapped women talent, and the entry of digital natives into the workforce.

The second is high youth and fresh graduate unemployment in Malaysia, unemployment become a concerning issue in most of the countries especially in Malaysia. A key reason is the slower hiring compared to the number of job seekers. The slower pace of hiring is due to cautious business sentiments and a moderate economic performance that restrains businesses from expanding their workforce. The alarming rise in youth and fresh graduate unemployment and the equally disturbing high number of young people who still live in poverty despite having a job shows how difficult it is to reduce unemployment, unless strong efforts are being made to achieve sustainable economic growth.

The third is amount of employer seeking for experienced workers, these days most employers seek experienced workers and mostly it is hard to find experienced workers these days. This means that the fresh graduates are ignored. This makes it a competitive field for fresh graduates. This are the reason why GLOW is implemented in Malaysia.

Another reason is to eradicating unemployment in Malaysia, by implementing Global Online Workforce , Malaysians will have a opportunity to access to a  employer easily. By following the program they will be educated on how to find a job via online platform, and GLOW will give comprehensive training and training modules by MDEC strategic partners, experienced subject experts and specialist trainers. Exercises are hands-on. Hard skills are, however, not included in the training sessions.

Reflection

On 24th September 2018, MDEC sent Nor Ashikin to give a seminar about Global Online Workforce (GLOW) at Dewan Seminar N28 (Faculty of Computing) UTM Johor Bahru. At the seminar she talked about how to earn money from online platform, such as e-commerce, Freelancing and many more, but the main thing she wants to inform us was about was about freelancing. There are many advantages of freelancing and e-commerce, but the main advantages is we don’t have to spend extra energy to go to work and extra money on transport in order to gain money, because we can earn that by staying at home and only on out personal devices such as laptop, PC, handphone. Students can also provides to this program or getting involve into this program to become freelancers, that’s also the advantage of freelancing. This is the reason I become fascinated, because we can apply a job, work and earn money by just staying at our home even when we are on our vacation we can still work and earn money by become freelancers. And from Nor Ashikin that earn more than 150.000 MYR even now she is working on a project where she gets more than 500 USD per month.

However, freelancing requires an advance skills also. There are simple task to apply but the payment also not big enough. For a high payment we have to gain advantage by using our skills to apply for job. Usually freelancer use an app , what I get from the seminar is freelancer.com they said this is the most common freelancer used to apply for a job because there a tons of employer at freelancer.com.

GLOW really gain advantage by the current issue in Malaysia, because there are lot of unemployment in Malaysia and that issue really concerning for Malaysians. GLOW lead Malaysians to the new era of applying for a job and gain income, sometimes people make freelancing as their main source of income. And I think freelancing will be the most popular profession in the future, and I am glad that GLOW introduce me to freelancing even I didn’t follow GLOW program. By giving seminar to college student will help reducing unemployment for fresh graduates. Hopefully Global Online Workforce(GLOW) will open more opportunity to international not only for malaysians .
