Executive Summary
On 17/4/2018, an industrial seminar was given by IR Juraimi Masood at L50 DK1 in UTM. The speaker brief us on his background, his career advancement and finally some important points to be noted and bear in mind for future graduates like us. Currently, he holds a general manager position in Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas (PTP). IR Juraimi Masood started in an electrical engineering course in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and he continue to study in United State (U.S.). Upon graduation, IR Juraimi Masood work as a management trainee. He then advance to a project engineer where he handle his first heavy engineering project, the KLCC Air Conditional Plant project. IR Juraimi Masood gain a lot of experiences through handling the projects, and he pointed out that design, project planning, project costing, project construction, quality and safety are the key points in ensuring a successful project. Throughout the seminar, IR Juraimi Masood stress that safety are the top concern and top priority when implementing an engineering project. Moreover, he also indicates that communication skills are important in order to become a good engineer. This is because, an engineer requires not only the ability to solve problem, but also to handle with clients, colleagues, and contractors. IR Juraimi Masood then share his experiences on how PTP was developed and how they tackled with issues and problems such as environmental issue, designation constraints, construction constraints, and project costing difficulties. Finally, he ended the seminar by giving some insight on the expectation of employer towards employee which are the ability to function effectively in a group, the ability to apply knowledge of engineering fundamentals, the ability to communicate effectively to colleagues and community, the ability to undertake problem identification, formulation and solution, and the ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyse and interpret data.
