MINI REPORT
The purpose of the IChemE Career Talk 2021 event was to introduce students to a general overview of the chemical engineering sector. Additionally, this program will inspire students to work harder in class because of the promising future they will have once it is over.
The IChemE UTM SC was the event's organiser. The event took place online on January 23, 2021. From 9 to 11 am, a 2-hour long program was conducted. Mr. Nooreffandi Ariffin presented the first slot for this event, which was titled "Life after Graduation: What Lies Ahead?" Mr. Chin Did Kee presented the second slot titled "Alumni of Chemical Engineering UTM".
In the first slot, Mr. Chin Did Kee, a Maintenance Operation Manager at Kellogg Company, Negeri Sembilan, discussed his time at UTM until he reach the position that he currently holding, and Mr. Nooreffandi Ariffin, an Industrial Effluent Treatment System Engineer at Top Glove Sdn. Bhd, discussed the ups and downs he experienced after graduating. During the Q&A period, both speakers responded to a few questions from the audience.
SELF REFLECTION
The career talk presented by IChemE-UTM SC gave me a lot to think about, including how it feels to work in a field related to chemical engineering and the variety of job opportunities available to chemical engineers. I was curious to learn more about chemical engineering, so I took advantage of this career talk to ask the speakers more about chemical engineering.
The speakers also informed us of the skills that professionals in the field of chemical engineering must possess. In my opinion, the skills they described will boost our worth and improve our odds of finding employment.
They also discussed the state of the industry today and urged us to be ready to confront it after graduation. The career talk was interesting to me because it related to the course I'm currently taking and helped me realize that I need to hone my skills in order to succeed in the future and stick out from the competition. I hope that IChemE-UTM SC comes up with more programs like this for the undergraduate student so that we can learn more from the professionals.
