Mini Report

As a performer adorned in a graceful cheongsam, I had the distinct honor of dancing to traditional tunes during the Chinese New Year Celebration at Kolej Tun Razak on January 13, 2023. This role was not merely about showcasing dance skills but was a conscious choice to contribute to the vibrancy of the event, aligning with the essence of cultural preservation and community engagement. The traditional dance, with its intricate movements and cultural significance, aimed to deepen the connection of attendees with the rich tapestry of Chinese traditions, fostering an appreciation for cultural heritage within the UTM community."

"In addition to the traditional dance, I played a pivotal role in the committee, coming together with fellow organizers to present a modern Chinese New Year song performance. This collaborative effort within the committee showcased the unity and diversity within Kolej Tun Razak, contributing to a sense of community engagement. The modern twist in the song performance not only celebrated the contemporary spirit of the festival but also highlighted the dynamic cultural diversity within the UTM community. Through this role, I actively participated in creating an inclusive and entertaining environment for all attendees."

"My participation as a performer, both in the traditional dance and the modern song performance, directly aligned with the Graduate Attributes, particularly emphasizing the development of a global citizen. The traditional dance represented a commitment to preserving cultural heritage, fostering intercultural competence, while the modern performance showcased the contemporary aspects of Chinese culture, contributing to a more nuanced understanding of diverse customs. This firsthand experience with both traditional and modern expressions played a crucial role in fostering a global mindset among the participants."

"In conclusion, my dual role as a performer in the Chinese New Year Celebration at Kolej Tun Razak was a deliberate choice to contribute to personal growth, cultural enrichment, and the development of a global citizen. Through the fusion of traditional and modern performances, I actively engaged with the diverse content of the celebration, creating a unique platform for individuals to appreciate, celebrate, and actively participate in the shared heritage within the UTM community. This intentional involvement not only enriched the cultural tapestry of the event but also contributed to the creation of a more interconnected and harmonious community at Kolej Tun Razak.

Self-Reflection

As I reflect on my role as a performer during the Chinese New Year Celebration at Kolej Tun Razak, the experience has been profoundly enriching and transformative. Dancing in a traditional cheongsam to the beat of ancient tunes allowed me to not only showcase my dance skills but also actively contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage within the UTM community. The meticulous movements and cultural significance of the traditional dance not only deepened my connection with Chinese traditions but also fostered an appreciation for the diverse tapestry of cultures that make up our university. It was a reminder that through active participation in such cultural events, I play a role in shaping a vibrant, inclusive community."

"Being part of the committee and contributing to the modern Chinese New Year song performance added a layer of collaborative engagement. Working alongside fellow organizers, I witnessed the power of unity and diversity within Kolej Tun Razak. The experience of presenting a modern twist to a traditional celebration not only celebrated the contemporary spirit of the festival but also highlighted the dynamic cultural diversity within our community. This dual role not only allowed me to personally grow as a performer but also underscored the importance of cultural preservation, unity, and collaboration in fostering a community that values and respects the richness of global cultures.
