REFLECTION

For this project, a team of four including me was formed to do a survey pertaining to the topic that we would like to discuss on. After a thorough discussion, we had come to a decision that the title of our project would be “Usage of E-Wallet among UTM Students in Daily Life”. In this era of digitalization, e-Wallet has been booming in Malaysia over these years, hence it has become a common payment option for people as especially when e-Wallets are now widely accepted by the retail stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets, F&B outlets, and even small vendors would provide e-Wallet payment option for people. It is because e-Wallet can offer its convenience by saving people’s time to queue up the lane and finding the change as we can simply scan the QR code provided by the merchants with our smartphone or vice versa to make the purchase. E-Wallet is just like a real wallet, we can reload it via our credit or debit card to make the transactions whenever required, thus it has emerged as a new trend for people as it is definitely worthwhile to use it.

Therefore, we have come to a decision that our target would be UTM students, so we would take a survey on the dependency of UTM students on e-Wallet. The scope of our case study is to investigate the potential of e-Wallet to be the main mode of payment among UTM students. Since Google Forms make working on data simpler and are easily distributed as we just need to share the link via Whatsapp for students to fill the forms up, so we created an online survey through Google Forms to get data from UTM students pertaining to usage of e-Wallet in their daily lives. Besides some personal data such as their genders, ages, courses, we mainly focused on a few typical questions to obtain and collect the data. For example, what types of e-Wallet they are using, how frequently do they use e-Wallet, their satisfaction rate about e-Wallet, their monthly expenses using e-Wallet and overall monthly expenses, their degree of agreement upon e-Wallet is the best mode of payment, reasons to use e-Wallet and how likely they would recommend it to people. Also, this is my first time to create a Google form as I had never done a survey before, so it is a new skill that I managed learned to carry out this project.

Not only that, according to our rubric given by our lecturer, Dr. Chan, we need to fulfill a few tasks, so my task is to do the data analysis and visualizations using R language to produce the graphs and plots from the dataset which is based on the responses of students. And R is a programming language that works well for statistical computing and graphics that can compile and run on several platforms like Windows, Mac and Linux. Thus, I would like to thank you Dr. Chan for introducing us with the basic fundamentals of R programming concept and giving the slides which have greatly helped me in understanding the concepts of R programming. Needless to say, there are still some problems when I try to do the code on my own as a beginner, but I had tried my best to search for useful websites and Youtube tutorial videos which enhance my skill in R, so I ended up completing my task within the specified time. Also, my teammates are cooperative and they did their own jobs well in preparing the report and presentation video and I am thankful that I have good team members which will offer help to each other to solve the problems.

To recapitulate, I do appreciate that I am able to complete this project with my team members as not only have I gained my knowledge towards R programming language and successfully produce all the graphs and plots required, but also enhance my critical thinking skill which goes a long way towards data processing and analysis. And I believe this is what needed the most in my future pathway every time I encounter a problem or challenge in my lifetime. Also, I would like to say a big thank you for Dr. Chan for providing us any necessary help and guidance and giving good explanation about our tasks in this project, so that we all managed to complete our project successfully.
