Summary for NALI 2019
New Academia Learning Innovation (NALI) 2019 is a celebration of innovative teaching and learning practices. It was held in the convention hall at the faculty of built environment and surveying on 18 September 2019 from 8.30 a.m until 5.00 p.m. The objectives of this exhibition and competition are to recognize NALI research and innovation in teaching and learning, be the platform for sharing of research and innovation in teaching and learning, enhance educators competency in practicing teaching and learning in the 21st Century through NALI workshops, and also raise STEM awareness among educators in practicing NALI.
Augmented Reality Plan & Elevation (ARPE)
In secondary school mathematics, Plan and Elevation is a topic in Geometry which requires visual spatial skills. This topic requires students to sketch and draw the plan and the elevations of a given three-dimensional object from different angles. However, the conventional way of teaching Plan and Elevation has limited the students' experience that would help to enhance their visual spatial skills. Hence, a mobile application called Augmented Reality & Pla Elevation (ARPE) was developed so that teachers and students can visualize and interact with three-dimensional objects using mobile devices in the classroom. ARPE allows teachers and students to rotate the object and look at it from the aerial view, as well as from left and right elevations. The findings have indicated improvement in the students' understanding of the topic Plan and Elevations through the use of APPE. Thus, it is a good teaching aid that can be used by teachers in the teaching process in order to encourage mathematical investigation in the teaching and learning of mathematics.
Learning Periodicity through Student-Created Video via Flipgrid Application
This project is conducted in Johor Engineering Matriculation College in Pontian Johor, where 113 engineering background students are selected to be the experimental group and 54 students in the control group. It is invented by groups of students that are required to create a video regarding one of the topics in Chemistry Matriculation Syllabus, which is Periodicity. Students were asked to create a video according to their creativity where the video presentation can be in the forms which include animation videos, presentation, singing, role-play method and so on. In integration between technology and digital tool, an online platform called Flipgrid is used as a tool for students to record, upload and straight away share their videos. The objective of this project is to study the effectiveness of student-created video in learning Periodicity via Flipgrid App and to increase digital literacy among students based on 21st-century learning classroom design.
Mobile Learning Apps for Language Listening Skill
The Mobile learning application is an innovation built to help students practice their English listening skills as listening skills is one of the important skills needed for learning English. With the help of mobile technologies and handheld gadgets, it is believed that it is a good chance for students to improve the quality and effectiveness of English learning anytime and anywhere. This product is basically designed to enhance students' listening skills through preparation for MUET listening test but also recommended for anyone who is interested in improving English language listening skills. The objectives of the study are to explore students' perceptions towards the effectiveness of using mobile applications for English listening practices and develop a mobile application for students to practice English listening as long as there is internet connection for them to sharpen their listening skills.
