On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, my friend and I went on an industrial visit to Synthomer Sdn. Bhd., which is located in Pasir Gudang, Johor. The IChemE Club at UTM organised this industrial tour. My friend and I were excited to attend on this industrial tour because we wanted to see how an engineering firm does its business. This is also a practise run for when we look for an internship firm next year. This industrial tour will cost RM 30 and will begin at 8:00 a.m. and finish at 12:30 p.m.
Before departing to our destination, all participants were expected to convene in L01, Kolej Tun Hussein Onn at 7:20 a.m. The IChemE committees were also responsible for preparing breakfast for all attendees. We left on schedule at 7:50 a.m. and arrived at our destination, Synthomer Sdn. Bhd., at 9:00 a.m. When we arrived at the location, Mr. Syahrizan, the senior HR manager, greeted us warmly. We were led inside the main gate of their company by him at first, and he began to provide guidance us on certain safety measures that must be followed when visiting their industry site. After that, Mr. Syahrizan took us separately to two different conference rooms to begin their presentation. We learned about the company's history, how their manufacturing line works, and even their personnel roster throughout this presentation. The presenter had also opened a Q&A session at the end of the presentation for us to ask questions.
After the presentation, we began to prepare ourselves by equipping the safety shoes and jackets given by the workers before our industrial tour to their workplace. Mr. Syahrizan had taken on the role of tour guide, introducing and explaining each industrial facility. Mr. Syahrizan's explanation clearly shows how workers inside the sector was split and how they carried out their tasks. We will also be able to view their controller room. We were astounded by the equipment inside the controller room and were informed that the controller room played a crucial part in observing and controlling all of the industry's production lines. After the tour guide, we were finally taken back to hand over the workers their safety shoes and jacket.
As this was their first time hosting so many visitors in a single industrial visit, Mr. Syahrizan and the other employees spoke on behalf of their firm to express their deepest thanks to all of us who had come to visit their company. The club representative of our IChemE club also presented Mr. Syahrizan with a certificate. Last but not least, we had to wrap up this industrial tour with a group photo with Mr. Syahrizan and his employees. This industrial excursion has unquestionably left me with fond memories.
Reflection
After taking part in the industrial visit that the UTM IChemE Club had planned for Tuesday, June 27, 2023, I had learned something fresh about the working environment and was really grateful for having the opportunity to visit Synthomer Sdn. Bhd. I gained a lot from this industrial tour as an engineering student who is going to take part in an internship program in next year. My friend and I were excited to go on the industrial tour since we could learn more about the sector by physically being there.
The employees of the firm introduced themselves to us at first and gave us a quick overview of the company's history and primary products. Through the presentation, I had a basic knowledge of the industry and was astounded by the company's history. In addition, I learn about all the safety regulations that visitors to the industry site must abide by in order to avoid any mishaps. Following that, the presenter gave us a list of their workers, which made me realize how many people work for this company. My friend and I expressed our curiosity in specific aspects of the industry site and production processes during the Q&A session that followed the presentation. The speakers patiently and clearly addressed every query, and I was quite appreciative that all of my questions had been answered. I had carefully laid down all the crucial information for my future employment.
Next, a tour guide took us to every industry location within the company. Before we begin our tour, they had prepared safety shoes and jackets that must be wear by everyone of us. During the visit, Mr. Syahrizan, the senior HR manager, served as the tour guide. He is a highly enthusiastic and responsible individual, as seen by the way he presented and described each area of the industrial site as well as the large machines that were in use on the production lines. Mr. Syahrizan additionally talked about their controller room, and this is the portion that truly astounded me. I was eager to see all the intricate and cutting-edge machinery in the controller room. I also learned that the controller room plays the most vital role in the entire company since it must monitor and regulate all of the company's manufacturing processes.
After the tour, I was still amazed by what I had seen because it was the first time I had seen the genuine machine and equipment that I had learned about in the lecture and project. Overall, this industrial tour has greatly enriched my life by providing me with fresh knowledge and experiences.
