Executive Summary of Industrial Talk

       On the 17th April 2018, an industrial talk titled 'BEM Code of Conduct' has taken place at Dewan Kuliah 1, L50 in UTM. The talk was given by Ir. Juraimi Masood, which is now the General Manager of Port Tanjung Pelepas (PTP). The content covered in the talk includes his past experience as a resident engineer in heavy engineering, the expectation of employers towards fresh graduates and the code of ethics in engineering. In the first hour of his talk, Ir. Juraimi talked about his working experience in several companies/projects such as the Kuala Lumpur City Centre(KLCC) project, KLCC Air Conditional plant project, Telekom training center and now, PTP. He shared some of his experience on how to deal with relationship between colleague, clients and contractors. Besides that, he also mentioned the quality and aspects that are expected by the employers from their employees. These includes the ability to manage stake holders' expectation, manage the development plan, developing master plan, determining end users' requirements and maintaining high quality and safety product. 

       In the last half hour of the talk, Ir. Juraimi gave a brief overview of code of ethics that we, as an engineer, has to follow when performing engineering works in the future. The code of ethics mentioned by him was from National Society of Professional Engineering(NSPE) in America and the code of ethics by Institute of Electrical Engineering(IEEE). The most important line covered by these codes is the rule to hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public.
