Mini Report
On 28th of October 2018, I had participated Kathina Volunteer Event which was held at Santi Forest Monastery Ulu Tiram, Johor by Persatuan Mahasiswa Buddis UTM (PMBUTM). This event is a Buddhist festival and is held for time of giving, for the laity to express gratitude to Sangha (Buddhist monks). Buddhists from all around Johor including Singapore brought donations to monastery, such as foods, daily necessities and new robes for the monks.
As one of the volunteers from UTM, I was being assigned to help in classifying, separating and collecting all the donations received. After that, we were being assigned to clean the main hall of the monastery. This volunteering event involved communicating skills, team working skills and adaptability. This event had helped the Sangha to ease their daily life in monastery so they were able to convey the knowledge of Buddha to devotees more relieving. This event also provided a platform for UTM students who are Buddhists to contribute their help and visiting to monastery at the same time.

Self-Reflection
The whole classifying process involved few groups of us, which each group is made up of 20 peoples sitting in a big circle. Other than this, boys were assigned to carry all the donations down from lorries and carry in to upstairs storeroom to store the classified donations. I have learned the most important attribute through this event which is team working skills which totally help in completing the tasks easier and faster. Besides, communicating skills and adaptability are also significant to adapt myself in the process which involving people from different courses or places.
Although it was tired since we were needed to wake up at 3am and backed to hostel at 7pm, it was a very special and meaningful experience for me as a Buddhist and member from PMBUTM to give my contribution and help people in need, this had strengthen my quality as a global citizen. I was grateful that the event were also supported and sponsored by different charities which provided the foods for all volunteers on the whole day.
