Week 1

I began by learning about the company and the machines it employs. I worked on drawing parts in Solidworks. I checked items with a different tool and learned how to smooth metal surfaces. I also created a template with the company's logo in Solidworks. In the production department, I assisted in the testing of new products produced. I observed how items were made in the factory and learned how to use instruments to precisely measure things. I learned the symbols used in engineering drawings. This will aid my understanding of those drawings in the future.

Week 2

This week was focused on acquiring hands-on skills and procedures in the manufacturing field. I learned how to use instruments like the flat deburring tool to ensure that our goods are smooth and safe. I also watched how they process raw materials before manufacturing items. I also got to help verify the sizes of the products to ensure they met our quality requirements. I learned using the Solidworks CAM computer program for manufacturing. I also learned how to use devices like the band saw machine to cut metal properly. I observed how to set up and program CNC machines, which are critical in precision manufacturing. I helped plan and organize our work so as to satisfy customer orders on time. Overall, it was a week of learning and hands-on exposure to the manufacturing industry.

Week 3

I assisted with the cutting of aluminum pieces for our products with a band saw machine and even assisted with rush orders. I had to figure out what and how much materials we needed for new orders and make sure we had enough of them. I observed how to compare pricing from various suppliers and make the most economic decisions. I participated in meetings to organize our work and used Solidworks to assist with drawings and Microsoft Excel for progress tracking. We even subcontracted some of our work to another company to aid in production. In our production environment, it was a busy but fruitful week of learning and doing.

Week 4

I observed how they programmed the machinery that created the parts by using MasterCAM. It was intriguing to observe how these programs generate specific codes that regulate the movements of the machines. I also immersed myself in MasterCAM lessons. My daily responsibilities included inspecting new products produced. I helped to organize the subcontracting goods. It was great to observe the operation of the end mill resharpening machine. I learned how to tap materials to form threads. I kept track of our production progress and observed the daily productivity. It was a week of learning and contributing to the success of our manufacturing team.

Week 5

I got to use machines like the orbital sander machine to polish and shine large aluminum goods. I learned the value of utilizing different sanding discs to eliminate scratches and smooth up the surface. I also observed the use of a bench grinder machine, which is used to grind pieces of smaller goods. I performed routine product inspections and studied slot milling in MasterCAM. I was even exposed to a unique material known as Epoxy G10/FR4. I also assisted with material planning for a new customer order, ensuring that we had all of the necessary materials. I learned to use the vertical milling machine for face milling.

Week 6

This week, I learned more about CNC machining codes that control the machines. Codes like M03 and M04 for controlling spindle direction, M05 for stopping the spindle, and M06 for changing tools were introduced to me. I also learned how to utilize precise vise parallel blocks to securely hold small workpieces in position while cutting. My responsibilities also included product inspections and tracking the status of each machine's work. I also learned to make chamfer models in MasterCAM.

Week 7

I concentrated on examining new products as well as those that had been treated to ensure they matched our quality standards. I was also in charge of evaluating our raw material inventory and determining what we needed to purchase for upcoming orders. I learned about advanced machining processes in MasterCAM, such as dynamic milling and contour functions, which assist in shaping and finishing our goods perfectly. I was even tasked with measuring threads. I was taught to use the gauge blocks to inspect the linear dimension of the products produced within the given tolerance. It was a week of receiving hands-on experience with programming, tool inventories, and inspection.

Week 8

I received practical experience in CNC milling operations throughout this week of my internship. With the help of the MasterCAM program, I learned the setup and operation of the CNC milling machine and produced 28 black delrin products that were semi-finished. I kept producing the semi-finished goods until there were 35 of them, and I also made 35 of the finished goods for Process 2 at the bottom plane. I also helped with product inspection and packaging while becoming familiar with a variety of CNC milling machine cutting tools. Overall, my internship gave me useful hands-on experience with CNC production and machining procedures.

Week 9

I practiced the dynamic mill function in MasterCAM using the previous real customer order. I took on a project, analyzing data for the company. As the week progressed, I tackled various tasks, from stainless steel materials sizing to aluminium products drilling and tapping. I learned to operate a different CNC milling machine model and master the 'M01' optional stop function. I contributed to sizing black and white delrin materials by using the CNC milling machine.

Week 10

I learned the significance of single-block mode for precision and safety. I mastered CNC machine settings and product quality checks. I had completed a production cycle and begun a new procedure. I also learned how to deal with low-oil alarms, manage materials and develop the MasterCAM program. This week has been a pleasant experience that has helped me improve my CNC machining abilities and production understanding.

Week 11

I produced 60 pieces of black delrin products successfully after solving the problem with drill bit chips by adjusting the machine's code for chip cleanup. I contributed by giving a presentation on MasterCAM programming and supporting intern, Wan in understanding tolerance and product inspection. I learned how to use MasterCAM's 'Dynamic Mill' and 'Transform' functions for precision machining, generating PowerPoint slides, and conducting product inspections. I practiced cutting aluminum raw material using a band saw machine, followed by learning tool management. The week concluded with an eye-opening discussion about lowering cycle time for increased production and I was tasked with finding the problem and solution for the cycle time.
