Mini Report

Karnival Sukan MASUM 2019 is a sports event that involves university students. The objectives of MASUM are to encourage and tighten the interaction of all university students and also improve the development of sports in Malaysia.

Through the selection, I was chosen to be the athlete in the event Taekwondo. Our team trained hard in order to win the tournament. Before the tournament, we had a two-week centralized training at UTM. It was the toughest training I had. Although I lose in the tournament, I gained a lot of experience.

I had learned a lot of graduate attributes, which are Leadership and Teamworking Skills, Thinking Skills, Communication Skills, and Adaptability. Since I was the vice-captain, I had the responsibility to lead my team for training and to strengthen our teamwork. After the training, we would gather and discuss each player's strengths and weaknesses. Each player had to deliver their own ideas. Since our team consists of local and international students, I able to communicate with people from different backgrounds and cultures, and I able to get along with them. I felt so grateful to join MASUM as I was able to know my weaknesses and I had a great team.

Self - Reflection

MASUM is a meaningful event for me as an athlete. It allows me to gain a lot of experience and to know my weaknesses. I joined the UTM Taekwondo Club in my first semester. I attended the training and participated in the tournament, Kukkiwon Cup in October 2018. After the tournament, I undergo different stages of selection and at last, I was selected to join Karnival Sukan MASUM 2019. The training was tougher than I had done before. I knew that if I didn't train hard until I mastered my skills, I'll lose in the tournament. I gained Adaptability Skills as I had to adapt to the tough training.

As the vice-captain of the team, Leadership and Teamworking Skills is very important as I had the responsibility to lead and encourage my team to be more passionate in Taekwondo. Captain and I had to think of a variety of training to make the training more interesting. We always had an after-training meeting to discuss each player's strengths and weaknesses. Through the meeting, I was able to gain Communication Skills and Thinking Skills as I had to discuss and deliver my ideas orally in a clear and comprehensive manner. Although I lose in the tournament, I didn't give up. I need to train harder and harder in order to win in the next tournament.
