Venue: Panasonic Stadium Shah Alam

Category: Academic Enrichment

Position/Roles: Participant

Mini Report:

Bon Odori is a traditional Japanese dance that originated in the 16th century. It is associated with the Obon festival, a Buddhist event honouring ancestors' spirits. The dance was initially performed to welcome and entertain the spirits during the Obon season, which typically takes place in the summer. Over time, Bon Odori evolved into a community celebration, spreading across Japan and beyond other country. The dance often involves circular movements and simple, rhythmic steps. Dancers wear yukatas, traditional summer kimono, and form circles around a central stage where musicians play lively tunes on instruments like taiko drums and shamisen. The Bon Odori 2023 is an event plan by the UTM Japanese Culture Club to promote the Japanese culture in the university.

Self Reflection:

Participating in the Bon Odori festival in 2023 was a profound experience that transcended cultural boundaries. The rhythmic beats of the taiko drums echoed the heartbeat of unity, while the vibrant colours of yukatas painted a kaleidoscope of diversity. As I swayed to the elegant dance moves, I felt a deep connection to the rich tapestry of traditions and the warmth of community. The festival became a mirror reflecting the beauty of shared heritage and the joy of coming together. In those moments, I discovered the power of cultural exchange in fostering understanding and appreciation. Bon Odori 2023 was not just a celebration; it was a journey of self-discovery, reminding me of the importance of embracing diversity and finding harmony in our collective dance of life.1696570912680.jpg.11696571099095.jpg
