Mini Report

Boxtrolls is an industrial sharing and bonding event that is organized by the Computer Graphics and Multimedia Association (CGMA) for all students from SECV (Graphics and Multimedia Software). The event is held at Dewan Kuliah 1, L50 in UTM and the event time was from 8.30 am until 5.00 pm. After the registration session, we had a briefing about the tentative program and some students were randomly picked to introduce themselves simply. After that, we had the industrial sharing session in which our seniors from Year 4 who had finished their industrial training will share their experiences of internship. There was a Q&A session between the seniors and juniors to share more details about the internship such as the interview process, salary, skills required, company environment, etc. We had an hour's lunch break at 1.00 pm and after that, we had to take the second attendance before the next session started. At 2.30 pm, the activity was team building. In this session, we were divided into several groups, each involving 8 to 10 students from different years. The team activity is that we should build our own tower and also a weapon that is used to attack other groups' towers. We are provided with some materials such as cardboard, paper cups, scissors and tape. After discussion, my group decided to build a simple tower with a great bottom area to ensure its stability. We created a paper gun as our weapon but it was too weak to attack and destroy the big tower. Each group was given three chances to attack other groups' towers. The judge gave the marks based on the design, height of the tower and the endurance of the tower. Before being dismissed, we had a closing ceremony which included a prize-giving session and a photo session.

Self Reflection

Boxtrolls is the first CGMA activity that I participate in physically after the pandemic. After involving in this event, I was able to know new friends from different batches. Besides, I have a general understanding of the internship that I am going to train in the fourth year of my university. I also improve my creative skills by involving myself in the session on building the tower and weapon. My communication skills have levelled up through the group discussion and we complete our group tasks by working in a team. After attending this activity, I feel more that I am one of the CGMA since we finally conduct the activity face-to-face and it has strengthened the bonding between every CGMA member.

Mini Report

Boxtrolls Edge of Tomorrow 2023 is an event that was held as a punishment for the low attendance of the previous Boxtrolls 2023. It is organized by CGMA for the second and third year SECV students and the event was started at 8.00 am at Tasik Ilmu UTM. After Dr. Ajune arrived, we received some advices from her and got to know the importance of CGMA to us. After the briefing session, we had to walk from Tasik Ilmu to building N28 within 20 minutes. All of us arrived at N28 in time, we took a short break at the student lounge outside the ViCubeLab to calm our body down. During the break time, Dr. Ajune again highlighted the importance of prioritization, scarification, humbleness and getting out from the comfort zone on the way to a better person. After a while, we were divided into groups and took turns to enter the ViCubeLab to try the VR and AR technologies through devices and games. We had chance to communicate with D.I.A.N.A., a real-time intelligent hologram avatar programmed and trained as a virtual assistant. It was created using AI and speech technologies which allows it to interact with people using natural speech with questions related to UTM. After trying the technologies, the year 2 students gathered outside the ViCubeLab and had a game session. We played Draw on My Back and Guess the Emoji. Once everyone finished trying the technologies in ViCubeLab and playing games, all of us formed a new group which each group had two 3SECVH seniors and three 2SECVH juniors. The seniors shared their knowledge by showing us how to perform the AR quiz by using a mobile application. Last, we walked back to Tasik Ilmu and the event ended.

Self Reflection

In this redo program, I got to understand the responsibility and importance of participating in the event organized by CGMA. Dr. Ajune sent a lot of advice on our future life to us throughout the event. This event is enlightening as we can physically try AR, VR, AI and speech technologies which we are not usually seeing in reality. I can improve my adaptability to different technologies by observing how they work and figuring out their functions. I also enhanced my communication skills by involving myself in the group activities. I am pleased to have the chance to play with technologies that I had never tried before. This punishment activity brought a lot of benefits to us and I gained many new knowledge through it.

Mini Report

EXPEDEA'23 is a relaxing and bonding event organized by CGMA for all batches of SECVH (Graphics and Multimedia Software) students. The event was held at Bayu Impian Campsite which is outside UTM. At 7.00 am, we gathered at Dataran Resak KTDI before departure. After all participants arrived, four buses departed from UTM and each bus had a leader to lead the participants in the bus. We arrived at the campsite at about 9.15 am and warmed up together to prepare for the group activities. We were divided into groups randomly which each group consisting of 9 to 10 members from different years. The first activity was dropping a pen tied to the waist into a water bottle. Each group was given ten ropes, a pen and a bottle. Every group member had to follow the instructor's instruction to move their body so that the pen can be dropped into the bottle without seeing the pen. We were successful to put the pen into the bottle with the cooperation of every team member. After that, we had the second activity which was the snatching flag game. There were red flags and yellow flags that represent the two opposing teams. We had to snatch the opposite team's flags and put them into our base. At the same time, we also had to defend our own flag from getting snatched by the opponents. At about 1.30 pm, we had a lunch break. After lunch, the third activity was building sandcastles. We had to brainstorm to design our own sandcastle creatively and the highest sandcastles will win the competition. My group had built a sandcastle in the shape of a mermaid without an upper body and the height of the sandcastle was according to the person who stand behind it while taking a picture. Then, we had the prize-giving and closing ceremony. My group won second place in the building sandcastle competition. Before going back to UTM by bus, we had a beach cleaning session to clean up the rubbish to maintain the cleanliness of the beach.

Self Reflection

After attending EXPEDEA'23, I realized that resting is important for all of us to clear our minds and increase our productivity when there were many assignments and projects. This event improved my communication skills, leadership and teamwork skills in every activity that was conducted in groups. I also got to strengthen my adaptability by adapting and responding to different activities' requirements Through this event, every CGMA member created memories together and our bond became closer.
