Automatic Pick and Place Machine

This project mainly focuses on designing Automatic Pick and Place machine which function to pick soft contact lenses from the tray and place it to a specified cassette automatically. This project is related to industry and proposed by ALCON Malaysia. ALCON Malaysia also join forces with Ciba Vision to offer the most comprehensive eye health and vision care. The purpose of this project is to solve the problem that occur in production process of contact lenses in ALCON Malaysia. Currently in the Cast Molding process in ALCON, after extraction process, contact lenses are picked manually using a suction picker from the tray and place it in a cassette for another process of vacuum drying and plasma coating, thus this process consumes a lot of time to finish a single cassette. As this machine is automated, Arduino Mega 2560 controller has been used to control input and output of transducers. Besides that, for mechanism structure, this machine used linear track from aluminium profile v-slot and stepper motors in order to move in three axis which is x, y and z direction precisely. This machine provides multiple pickers at the end effector of machine to pick multiple number of contact lenses in one time. For the result, this machine is much better compare to humans because it improving process time of pick and place of contact lenses with multiple pickers which is reduce more than 50 per cent. Furthermore, this Pick and Place machine work automatically, thus will reduce a lot of energy as required to pick and place a lots of contact lenses by a single person as before. This project achieved the goal which is to provide the best technic that can handle a lot of soft contact lenses while it operating automatically, smoothly and provided flexible design.

Summary
Ir Juraimi had share plenty of his working experiences especially the project that he handled and he also share some tip how to dealing with customer. Nowadays, PHd student have negative view from employee. He said that employees demand is unrealistic compensation expectation (51%), a poor working ethic (47%) and are easily distracted (46%).

Conclussion
Dealing with real working surrounding, new employer especially fresh graduate must have communication skill such as when facing with client, engineer’s colleague and contractor. As an engineer, it is an important to learned profession. We also should expect to exhibit the highest standards of honesty and integrity. Engineering has a direct and vital impact on the quality of life for all people. Accordingly, the services provided by engineers require honesty, impartiality, fairness, and equity, and must be dedicated to the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare. Engineers must perform under a standard of professional behavior that requires adherence to the highest principles of ethical conduct.

Project details:
Nowadays, the number of cases involving missing children is increasing and in worrying trend. It is mostly associated with abduction and kidnapping where in some situation, it occurs in split second when in parents are accidently inattentive to the children. In crowded are such as shopping malls and festival area, keeping children closed to parents are more challenging. Thus, the need to get the children enganged with parent is deemed become crucial such that where about of the children can be monitored. For this project, our innovation is to build a device that can monitor distance between the parent and children. The device then would give alert to the parents, indicating the status of their children, and becoming early warning system before unwanted incident occurs to the children. Besides that, this project is about to innovate from existing system which is existing system that being used detect location of children usually involve complex hardware such as combination of GPS and mobile network which are expensive and only available to certain groups of people. Furthermore, the system also limited when involving detection inside closed area. For product features, this device is like kids watch which is this device is lightweight, extensible, contain cartoon characters, energy efficient and cost effective. This device work is work by attach to the child (receiver) while the other one (transmitter) to the parent. When the child is within 5 meters or less, no alert notification is ON, when the child is beyond 5 meters but less 10 meters, pulsating vibrating at parent device is activated to alert the parent and when the distance of child is more that 10 meters, it continuous vibration and beeping sounds are activated to notify parents. Lastly, the system work based on detection of signal strength both device. The devices are developed based on available technologies with innovation in term of integration of electronic component and system. The low development cost promises competitive market price.
