Report Activity No. 2

1. Program name: Pertandingan Akhir Vice Chancellor Debate Varsity Championship (Vcdc 2019)
2. Date: 5th -7th April 2019
3. Venue: School Mechanical Engineering, Utm Johor Bahru.
4. Organizer: UTM Debate Club

Debating will help me develop critical thinking skills that are essential in my daily life. I realize that after this competition, my ability to make well thought out and reasoned arguments while also questioning the evidence behind a particular conclusion or stance improved quite well because I know that we’re not going to be right all the time! This was wonderful experienced because me and my teammates stay up together just to revised the topic that will be discuss during the competition. Winning or losing still a win for me.

The debate competition was held in School Mechanical Engineering UTM  on 5th -7th April 2019 as a yearly activity by Debate Club. A total of 16-18 entries from various clubs in UTM have participated in this competition. Every participants performed well and made great impact on the audience by their logics and reasons. As a representative participant from Persatuan Mahasiswa/I Sabah PERMAS, my team manage to only come until quarter final however PERMAS team A manage to go to final. PERMAS Team A expressed ideas with eloquent expressions, examples, reasons, and appropriate quotations of great persons. PERMAS team impressed the judges and were announced as the winner. It was a very proud moment for all of us. The whole program ended at about 5pm in the last day of 7^th April with a hope of another competition will be held again in the next year.

I am joining as participant in this program. This was my very first time joining debate competition in university and compete with totally experienced senior who is superior in debate but my team still manage to go to quarter final. 

In general, joining debate competition have improved my perspective on the world around me because I've learn about important issues such as in politics, public policy, and philosophy and gain a better appreciation for the diverse perspectives that make up the public sphere. I learnt that everyone has opinions and it just the matter of how we viewed it with a open minded and some knowledge. Joining this competition has also increase my confidence level and self esteem when talking to the public.
