Introduction
E-wallet is a type of electronic card which is used for transactions made online through a computer or a smartphone. Its utility is same as a credit or debit card. An E-wallet needs to be linked with the individual’s bank account to make payments.
Few months ago, the government has raised a campaign with the purpose of increasing the amount of the E-wallet users in Malaysia. Each E-wallet users will acquire RM 30 into their E-wallet account and it can be used to buy anything. Ever since then, the amount of E-wallet users seemed to be increased drastically.
Therefore, we decided to carry a research on the usage of E-wallet among the students in UTM. This study examines the generality of the use of E-wallet among UTM students and the behavior of the users on E-wallet.
Reflection
Before we start our project, we have gone through some resources on the internet to have a better understanding on the main concepts of our project and also the methods to be used.
To collect the data required for our research, we decided to use Google Form to carry out a survey. All of our group members, including me, have come up with the questions after some brainstorming sessions. The first draft of the questionnaires were being checked by our lecturer, Dr. Suhaila Mohamad Yusuf. She has given us some suggestions to improve our questions. After some corrections, the questionnaires were distributed to the UTM students via each Whatsapp group. The form was opened for about a week and 65 responses were recorded after some filtration as some responses are not reliable. The questionnaires also contain questions for both E-wallet users and non-users to have more detailed data.
After receiving 65 samples of data, the data are organized into spreadsheet for further analysis and interpretation. The graphical presentation of the data and findings were also made by using RStudio program. The graphs presented were done by our group member, Low Wei Chieh.
After Low has created the graphs for the report, Chin Wei Xiang and I completed the report together and added our descriptions and analysis for the graphs. One of the examples is as shown below :
When we finished all the process of recording and analyzing the data, we have found that E-wallet is currently trending among the UTM students and most of them spend their E-wallet on food and beverages. More than that, we found that the most popular E-wallet apps among the students is Touch'N Go E-wallet followed by GrabPay.
Besides that, we also received responses from students who are not one of the users of E-wallet. Most of them think that paying by cash is more secure compared to E-wallet.
After finishing the survey and the report, we were supposed to have a presentation on our Project 1. However, due to the Corona Virus outbreak in Malaysia and the RMO (Restricted Movement Order), we had no choice but to present our project by recording a video where each of our group members appeared in the video and presented the results of the project. Conclusion
Throughout the process of conducting Project 1, I have realized that the trend of the E-wallet is growing so fast that basically almost all the people of our age group has become its users. The potential of the E-wallet are very large and it will surely become the mainstream in payments and it might have the potential to replace the debit cards and credit cards payment.
The Project was able to run smoothly thanks to the cooperation from my teammates, Low Wei Chieh and Chin Wei Xiang, as they have completed their work in a short period of time with high efficiency. I also recognized my weakness of procrastinating when I am doing my part but I was somehow managed to overcome it and finished my work without delaying too much. In short, I hope that I will not repeat the same problem for the upcoming projects.
